UK TV Ratings ‏@TVRatingsUK 3m
With 5.44m/24.2% Inspector George Gently on BBC1 comfortably overcame ITV's Europa League coverage (2.50m/11.1%).

Awful for the football, not the Gently benefitted at all either.

I think both storylines will be very different in tone and execution, so that onscreen they won't feel at all similar.
Spoiler
If you look at how they've described it, they're careful not to mention words like murderer or killer just the "person responsible", I can't see this being a typical murder mystery but instead someone pushing Lucy to do something drastic, or something else that makes someone indirectly responsible for her death, whereas Corrie seems to be going down the traditional murder/whodunnit road.
I can see it overshadowing Corrie's storyline though, so we may get some complaints from ITV in the press.

I can't see that to be honest.
Spoiler
Tina is miles more popular than Lucy

Again I watched nothing live past 7PM as it was really poor last night.

I don't think she will really die at all. Unless we see her actual dead body I'm putting it down to her faking it and then appearing in the 30th Anniversary episode.
its out of the blue, some of the wording used is very clever and DTC complained in the past of long serving legacy characters being killed off. So it goes against his own views. People on Walford Web seem to think the same.

Emmerdale also have a murder/manslaughter storyline coming up IIRC, but it is a more minor character that is killed.

Tina is no one. She has no genuine connections on the street. She dies who will mourn her loss?
Spoiler

Lucy's death effects the entire community as she has been a constant on screen for 20 years. Every viewer knows who Lucy is. The impact is far wider. Lucy might not be up there on Lacey Turner level but Lucy is the girl next door. The girl who is there not doing much but at the same time everyone knows her.

Gently may be staying steady, but I did expect it to be a tad up sadly.

I meant with the public.
Spoiler
Right now I'd say Tina is much more popular than Lucy, especially among younger generations. A lot of that has to do with the actress though.

I'm talking about the public too.

Spoiler
Who really cares about Tina leaving? Lucy is the daughter of Ian and Cindy Beale. That's a huge thing in itself. 20 million watched Cindy have Ian shot then flee leaving Lucy behind. Lucy is known to three decades worth of EE viewers. Its not all about popularity. Its about connections. Twitter is already in a right state over Lucy leaving. I don't recall that happening with Tina.

Emmerdale - 5.62m/25.7% (+1: 165k)
EastEnders - 7.04m/30.7% (BBC3: 609k)

During the 15 minute clash they both had 5.54m. Glad EE managed to stay above 7m, just, it won't next week though since it won't have the extra half hour to make up for the clash.

Plus Lucy doesn't drop her knickers for every guy in the square, unlike Tina who likes go thru men like knife thru butter.

Spoiler
We already know that the past means nothing in terms of bringing in more viewers to the show right now. Just look at all the returns that failed to lift the show late last year. Right now Tina is more popular but like I said that has a lot more to do with Michelle Keegan than the actual character. Case in point how she always seems to be nominated for best actress awards despite not being the strongest.

I'm not saying Lucy's death won't drum up a lot of hysteria because it will. But Tina's will too. It's not a one or the other situation.

Due to the select use of spoiler tags by various posters, even someone who finds the weekly Death In Paradise whdunnit too taxing will have worked out what the mystery soap storylines are.

For those trying not to spoil it for others - epic fail.

They have indeed said it'll not be a typical whodunnit...

Maybe it involves drugs? or an eating disorder?

She's not exactly an EE legend... And she's been played by several difference actresses and she's been in and out of the show a few times too.

She's hardly Pat!

Wow that's low for Emmerdale...

I bet the press won't report that

Nor that they clashed and EE won out overall (accepting they had the same viewers during the clash but they never report those kind of facts either)

No doubt they will report next week when emmerdale beats EE in the clash ::rolls eyes::

I was thinking eating disorder, I can only remember Hollyoaks doing a storyline where a character died due to this.

Something where Lucy is on life support and Ian has the agonising decision to turn it off

Yet her death will have far more impact than Pats. I was shocked at DTC for doing this but now I see it for the genius move it is.
