Well, not really, because it's obviously a far more competitive slot at 6.30 than it is at 1.45, and in addition it follows the One O'Clock News which gets an absolutely enormous share. Used to be that Countdown was always one of the most watched shows on Channel Four in the nineties, getting ratings equivalent to or often greater than its primetime fare, because the other channels were only showing childrens' programmes and adult education.

As the figure is down by so small an amount (what is the margin for error in overnight figures anyway?) and an increased share (even by a small percentile) shows that less were watching the tube overall.
Anyway, expect it to add a few thousand in consolidated figures, so not a disaster....

But it's only a 30 mins before ED which gets like 6m more
... 6:30 is just the news on both channels.. Programmes on Channel 4 can rate high (by their standards anyways) like Benefit Street did recently.

True, but we have seen Strictly It Takes Two get over 2m in a 6.30pm weekday slot. More competitive than 20 years ago in that slot but not impossible for shows to do better in that timeslot.
As expected for ITV - is it the worst ever Thursday primetime? It cant be far off surely.
I see Gently is getting some stick for no good reason. It held basically flat at 5.4m which is a good overnight. It was an excellent episode too.

I don't know anything about curling but i thought Team GB had a good chance at taking gold today. They don't seem to be doing well.
Would it not have made sense to have had 1.45pm - 5.15pm Winter Olympics on BBC One, instead of moving from Two when medal opportunities present themselves?

I'm not sure we really need extensive debate about the ins and outs of soap storylines - my murder plot is better than your murder plot like we've had today.

Well there is a good point about where all the ITV viewers went. I thought Gently might go up a bit and EE was also quite low considering.

Agreed - high performers like Benefits Street and The Jump prove that 4 can still achieve consistently good ratings when they get the content and schuedling correct. People are too easily satisified with a show being over 1 million these days - 4 and 5 can and should be doing better.
Saying that BodyShockers has been a good little performer in that 10 pm slot and it's not a bad show either , looking forward to seeing how the premier of Bridesmaids and Gogglebox does in the near future too. The former will hopefully be around the 2.5 million mark ( perhaps higher with any luck ... ) and if Gogglebox were to open with above 2 mil that would be great.
Opposite the Olympics granted but it must be worrying for Fox to see American Idol already down to a series low 2.4 and beaten by a TBBT repeat. Could we see it below a 2 before the season ends?

They only very narrowly made it through the Round Robin stage (by winning a sudden death play-off which they only qualified for thanks to another team's capitulation), and then they only won through the semi-final by default when the other team made a massive error or several, so that they got hammered by the overwhelming favourites is no great surprise. However, if there are plenty more like you who got swept away by the media's hyping up of their chances then I think we could see a very decent peak at the beginning of the contest - albeit obviously fading away when it was confirmed that the winner of the match was never in question.

I agree. In fact I'd have had the daytime events on BBC One throughout the Games - would almost certainly have got the events a bigger audience, and presumably saved valuable daytime budget for BBC Two.

Though I don't dispute that it's a poor figure, how could I, I wonder how much would they really have paid for last night's match? As opposed to, for example, last May's EL final featuring Chelsea which held up extremely well, over 5m in fact, against The Apprentice, despite their likely crossovers in demographic.
Also, Arsenal won 2-0 away at Bayern Munich this time last year. So whilst unlikely all hope is not lost quite yet.
ITV's problem is that they are contractually obliged to show these games while in purely editorial terms they wouldn't want to. Anyhow they won't have that problem from next year....
