NOTE: For those [under]predicting

The Voice ratings (yes Samuel, that's you

), it's worth noting that episodes aired after 6 Nations Rugby have been significantly boosted. The most recent, and most comparable with last nights, was 8.44m. A good starting point for working out where it might land... of course it could lose 2.5m but I doubt it!

Oh God, I can already tell that tomorrow morning is going to be even worse than usual when The Voice amazes us all by smashing its 6m target and Takeaway flops with under 7m.

I'm not sure The Cube has ever provided a good lead-in to anything!

It's continued survival on itv is something of a mystery. And I doubt it will start doing that well tonight in a 6pm slot opposite the rugby.

The ultimate opportunity of having a 10m+ Xmas Day sketch/entertainent/variety show may be too good an offer to decline in the future. At the BBC, they could be at the forefront of the corporation's entertainment genre, acting in major sitcoms and Christmas Day extravaganzas. One day they will have accumulated so much money from Itv, they wont need the money anymore and will be willing to take a pay cut and come to the Beeb. Patience, my friend, it will happen.”
The thing is that A&D can do everything they want at ITV. IAC and BGT won't suddenly end and there will be time to try new projects before then. They're not sketch artists or comedians, they're TV presenters. The ultimate opportunity for them is to be presenting BGT or IAC or their own show on Saturday nights. If they wanted to do a sitcom then they'd be doing a sitcom. Also worth mentioning is that they have a core team of people they trust - James Grant (who are very cosy with itv) and a small pool of producers that they work with and have done for 10 years now (particularly evident in the credits on the show tonight). They're very tied to itv these days. And not just in terms of the massive money (which itv can afford to pay because they know that A&D will do 3 established hit shows).
