Interesting move considering it lost more than half of its viewers too.

Big result for The Voice which last night beat Ant and Dec's #SaturdayNightTakeaway with 7.25m/31.2% viewers compared to (6.48m/27.8%).

First series of Heroes was very good but was suprised how quickly I lost interest in the second but more suprised that they think there is any more mileage left in it.

Good for The Voice. A bit disappointing for Takeaway really, considering that's with plus one; it's had a lot of hype and promotion so it could and arguably should have done better. Is it at risk? No - because ITV don't have anything else for that slot. But still not brilliant for it IMO.

Samuel - we know the ratings; we don't need 500 twitter posts from nobodies re-enforcing the point.

The bragging is becoming a bit too much. Yes The Voice got a great number and beat A&D (which equally got a great number) but do we really need to have a running commentary? It's providing ammunition for everyone (including me) to slate you.

Great numbers for both shows. Everyones a winner!

I believe that Heroes has been an easy sell into syndication in the
US, has been bought by many countries and box sets have sold well. I guess we are looking at 13 episodes designed as a package to extend "the brand". I don't think this is a Family Guy style un-cancellation.

Are we looking at this heading to Sky as an event season?

I thought that was quite a good figure for "Saturday Night Takeaway" to launch with really, its perhaps going to build as it did last year after its launch figure.

I thought it launched lower last year? 5.5 ?

It wasnt anywhere close to the lows of other entertainment shows on BBC one itv and Channel four I think next week the difference between the two networks will be smaller. "The Voice" should have gone to lives like "Britians Got Talent" until it finds a finalist as someone suggested as it would be a much better conclusion that the "Battle Rounds" which just leave the audience cold. The format needs correction if its to keep its ratings solidity. But good to see it still doing well at the moment, was a good audition round over the first few weeks and the judges are a big improvement on last year.

I'm sure it's all the adverts that stop people watching Takeaway and indeed any commercial channel live, I know they put me off. Depending on the length of the program I normally start 1/4 or 1/2 an hour in and then fast forward through the adverts to catch up. I haven't seen an advert in years.

I read that the Heroes series is a top DVD seller In the US and it has done very well on Netflix, so maybe they are hopeing it will have gained some new viewers. I think it ended at the right time, the last series was awful, in fact the writers strike seemed to screw the show over quality wise.

Disappointing for Takeaway but not bad by any means, could also grow opposite the weaker sections of the Voice.

This use of 'event series' by US networks is all pr rubbish, if the ratings are good it will return again, if they aren't they can just say it was a limited event not intended for anything more. Do they really think we are all stupid?

Considering the hype surrounding Takeaway I did expect more than that - I think a lot of people did. And that's with plus one; 6.5m excluding plus one would have been a better result (not that it's a disaster as it is - just disappointing). It hasn't been a good 2014 for ITV with new shows flopping and old shows (excluding DCI Banks which will presumably take a hit tomorrow opposite Silk) returning at lower levels. Hopefully this will give them a kick up the backside that the broadcaster needs.

Looks like it could be a full reboot, which if it's even half as good as the first season I'll be very excited indeed. Tbh, I think it was hit by the writer's strike and never really recovered, I've never known a show to decline in quality so suddenly

I can't see The Musketeers performing well tonight - but if MS beats it, it won't be because it's been benefitting from its loss of viewers. This isn't like Hope And Glory vs Bad Girls, when both series debuted head-to-head and BG gradually stole viewers off H&G - MS may well come out on top tonight, but purely because of TM's tumbling ratings, not because it's winning viewers over.

And I rather suspect Bridesmaids may dent them both …

Cant be much crossover between Bridesmaids and Musketeers though.

Twitter says SNT was down 590k on last years launch - dont know if its true though.

Launched with 6.46m plus another 610k on +1 last year.

That's correct, yeah. Not a particularly large fall at all to be fair. I think both shows held up pretty damn well really. Proof that both sides can do well against each other on Saturday nights.

Also, here's something that just occurred to me. Looking at how it skewed last year and how The Voice has skewed so far, I think Takeaway might have managed to win amongst 16-34s. That'll sweeten the blow a bit for ITV. Indeed, that'd be a win-win scenario really. BBC1 get the highest total, which is all that matters to them, whilst ITV win in the key demo and still get a strong total. That'd be a good result for both networks.

Do we know how everything else did last night? Could be some interesting results around.

Awful for the Cube, there's your answer for the lower takeaway figure last night! The Chase repeats would do better than that surely?

The Cube and Jonathan Ross are really poor performers now, interesting Pointless was a repeat and still did well.

JR in an earlier slot than a Graham Norton, consistently gets poorer ratings and shows people just switch him off. JR should be more to a later slot.

Another good night for BBC One - Pointless will never go off air at this rate! Take Me Out and Jonathan Ross saw a slight boost from Takeaway but The Cube really struggled. It will be interesting to see how it does next week; will Takeaway boost it or the feature length The Voice kill it?

Earlier slot and tougher opposition. Graham Norton benefits from having nothing of note against his show.

The cube was affected by the rugby. Should do better next week if there is no rugby. The figures also show that the Voice had a 2 million advantage audience against SNT at the start so SNT did brilliantly then.

I know he got a NTA but not much for Mr P Schofield to brag/tweet about this year as yet!
