Why? So it inflates the rating which will be removed in the officials anyway. Ridiculous!!
There's a few reasons why, but I don't want to get banned for saying them!

And Samuel you can't have your cake and eat it, either you want full slot or not!

Which was something of a ratings flop.

Agree (although not that different - see above.)

As a big 10-parter, I predict it will get the slot Musketeers has this year.

Other interesting commissions/programmes in development from the same production company for primetime BBC1.

Behind Closed Doors: primetime series of regional studio plays (perchance its small budget cancels out the bigger budget that Stop! In The Name Of The Love might have.

Dickensian: 20 x 30-minute studio drama in which various Dickens characters interact.

The Passing Bells: 5 x 30-minute World War I drama.

The article in Broadcast that mentions this commissions talks about the 30-minute dramas being stripped in the schedules. To replace The One Show for a few weeks? How else could they strip them? The 8pm hour is awkward because of the soaps. 9pm? That would leave them with a nightly slot to fill at 9.30. Stripped repeats of Mrs Brown or Miranda? Or it might be the eventual slot for Peter Kay's Car Share.

Car Share, WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!?
I wonder where the BBC will be making these regional studio-based dramas, the only BBC regions with the resources to do so would be Salford, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast (and Elstree in London). Very odd concept.

Bill should take the opportunity to probe her (ooh err!) and get to the bottom of this business. It would make great tv

I'm guessing the stripped 30-minute show might be for daytime?

Are Sunday's becoming regular Christmas Day's for BBC One? They can't get pre-recorded programming to run to time.

BBC 1 Extended news, BBC2 live Olympics.

Or

BBC 1 and 2 using CTM and Top Gear to dent Mr Selfridge.

BBC Two is perfectly understandable. Why was the news extended on BBC One; because of the situation in Ukraine? It seems strange; especially as it's happened two weeks in a row.

EDIT: Or maybe BBC Two running late is not understandable at all.

The Closing Ceremony finished about half an hour before the end of the broadcast, so no reason for BBC2 running late.

C4 have now released their trailer for the Winter Paralympics:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WdA8menDsI

Due to the Cheltenham Festival and actually the schedule (most days there isn't actually anything scheduled after 2.30pm other than a hockey game) C4's coverage will generally just be in the mornings, with More4 taking over around 12.30pm. Not sure how it'll rate at all, but they'll have already tripled the number of hours the BBC showed in Vancouver by the end of the Opening Ceremony broadcast.

Probably will drag the average rating of "Mr Selfridge" down ever so slightly by having the first five minutes face the end of "Call The Midwife"

According to bbfc all Musketeers episodes since the premiere have been 55 minutes, which would explain why everything before it runs 5 minutes late. Better than having the news 5 minutes early I suppose.

The titles of Mr. Selfridge hit the screen just as the credits of Call the Midwife ran.

Mmm so no overlap then. Its likely that these shows have the same audience and similar demographic.

No, that was Wigan vs Man City which averaged 4.96m (don't know what it peaked at).
Ah right okay. I just looked through the archive and you're right that the 9.4m peak at the conclusion of the 2013 FA Cup Final boosted Britain's Got Talent. But then the 11.4m peak for the 2012 FA Cup Final did not boost Britain's Got Talent at all, it was flat week-on-week. Very strange!!
With broad stuff like X Factor or The Voice I think any lead-in helps.

Football (and sport in general) skews relatively young and upmarket, similar to X Factor. The difference is that X Factor is about 60/40 female to male while the football is the reverse. But within that, there's going to be a reasonable number that might stick around. Certainly more than The Chase!
That's fair enough. However I'm not sure quite how much difference it will make. We'll see.
The Closing Ceremony finished about half an hour before the end of the broadcast, so no reason for BBC2 running late.
And indeed the programme came off air at the time it was scheduled to. If BBC Two is running late now it must be something to do with the prerecorded factual about F1 inbetween the Ceremony and Top Gear, how very strange.

People mentioning Car Share going awol but what has happened to BBC One's new medical drama Quirke? This was originally supposed to air last year in late summer. Has anyone heard anything about it recently.

One of the old regulars posted a few months ago (Craig Mcellan?) that it wouldn't air until MOTD2 finished for the season as it was 90minutes per episode and wasn't suitable for 8.30pm. Btw it's not a medical drama. It's a crime drama. RTE is currently airing it as we post.

It's been pointed out a million times that Musketeers only runs for 55minutes.

Did any see the trailer then for the Voice? The babies are back and it leads to the battles pretty good I thought.
