Agree with this even though the Voice isn't going amazingly those figures are still pretty impressive.

I doubt it; the films could provide tough opposition on Channel 4 and Channel 5 plus the additional audience for the BAFTAs has to come from somewhere.

TVUK down in X Factor figures there doesn't bode well once the blinds finish next week.


Yeah because TVUK and Ant and Dec's Saturday night takeaway share the same audiences don't they.

Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition. If TVUK can't handle that and are running scared then BBC should move it to later time slot to avoid the clash like itv did with X Factor against Strictly.

Part of Fincham's crusade to make Wednesday 8pm light ent work on BBC One. The disastrous Davina was another example earlier that year.

Now, he seems to have the same bee in his bonnet at ITV, possibly fighting with the "Let's make ITV breakfast telly popular" bee.

So Splash ended with 3.89 million, a million more than last week. Would I right in saying it won't be coming back? However, for all the critics tried to massacre it from day one, the first series was a surprise success

Bumped this one up, GMTV's problem in the last 10 years it was on air was it became trashy and low rent. I can remember switching it on during the height of the Cumbrian floods and Katie Price's boyfriend was the main news topic, so I rapidly switched to BBC Breakfast, which was covering the floods in full. Daybreak didn't learn from the mistakes of noughties GMTV and also hired the most unsuitable presenter ever, Adrian Chiles, who clearly wasn't interested in showbiz gossip.

The Wednesday 8pm LE shows on ITV get a lead-in from Corrie and don't do too badly for the type of programme that they are, but they seem to drag down the ratings for the dramas at 9pm. Witness DCI Banks whose series 3 premier on a Monday rated 1.4m more than the series 2 premier on a Wednesday (although I don't know what his BBC1 competition was that evening. Over to you, Steve Williams.)

Olympic Skating on BBC Two against Dancing on Ice. Not the best thing to happen for the latter.

"Every week"? "Always"? Saturday Night Takeaway has only been on the same night as The Voice UK twice!!

As has been said, last year was the first series of SNT in four years and (as was commonly acknowledged at the time) that boosted it. It also aired most of its series before Series 2 of TVUK began, allowing it to gain a foothold from people getting into the habit of watching it, and the second episode of SNT which was scheduled against TVUK was also boosted by a major publicity stunt by Ant and Dec. Whether it maintains the surge in popularity that all those factors came together to provide it with last year, particularly when the 'one show already being mid-series before the other comes along' situation is this time reversed into TVUK's favour, remains to be seen.

That and yesterdays Overnight is very good. Well done to casualty. It should timshist to 6m again this week.

I know it not fashionable to say this but that is a really good result for casualty. Still getting 6m which is good these days.

Great for The voice, down this week but nothing disgraceful. And I suspect the reason this episode is down year on year is because it doesn't have the luxury of a big BGT lead in.

So next week I suspect The Best result for the Voice is a low to mid 7m rating. SNT can get a strong 6m rating. TV does have a decent lead in. England vs Ireland is earlier though so it will be getting a Pointless lead in. The good this is the rugby draws people in.

It's the week after next that will be interesting for The Voice.

The Voice has Been No 1 in IPlayer all day and gets a BBC3 repeat now, people might be viewing in other ways than live.

And to whoever asked about new Pramface, it returns Tuesday Feb 25th at 10 on BBC3. Good slot, hope it does well.

Edit to say it will have new reality show Hair as its lead in, so a big night for BBC3.

Its now time to take off "Daybreak" because itv have tried as hard as they can with the ratings but viewers just wont budge from "BBC Breakfast". This is an interesting choice of presenter in Susanna Reid to turn around the ratings. But she needs to have something decent to present. How they can create something different to "BBC Breakfast" is really going to be the challenge not the presenting team. I notice itv are also denying that her contract is worth a million. These media headlines that surrounded Chiles and Bleakley didn't help to endear them to a new audience when the papers insisted they had been offered golden handcuff deals with itv. So they would perhaps be catious this time with Reid. She is a loss to the BBC team and they should have used her more on some of primetime.

Susanna Reid presented the most watched programme on all of television last year. She has been given big gigs by the Beeb.

The BBC philosophy is quite simple - no presenter is bigger than the programme and certainly not bigger than the network.Sian Williams was a popular Breakfast presenter but when she decided not to move to Salford the programme did not suffer one iota in ratings terms.One could hardly claim that moving to ITV has enhanced the careers of Adrian Chiles or Christine Bleakley, no wonder Chiles is trying to crawl back to the BBC on 5Live.

The great advantage the Beeb has is the steady flow of talent coming up through the ranks, from all directions and platforms. So when ITV inevitably poach some of the BBC's talent, perhaps as a perceived quick fix for an underperforming show of their own, they are easily replaced.

Susanna will have to start practising the words, "Coming up after the break.."

Chiles has the big football gig so he's presumably happy for now - but will that be the case come the autumn of next year when he's left with the odd England match, and the international tournaments every two years?

Adrian Chiles went for being a sports presenter way down the pecking order on the BBC and doing The One Show, to being the main football presenter on ITV hosting numerous high profile games, pretty much all live football on terrestrial, major finals, internationals etc for many years.

Even when ITV's football portfolio decreases he'll still be doing more football than he would have done on the BBC, plus he is still just as busy as various other sports presenters. Look at Gary Lineker, his schedule has been light for years yet nobody is writing off his TV career. All sports presenters have ups and downs depending on who has the rights.

Doing work on 5 Live isn't a sign of 'crawling back', many presenters who work for other channels in TV terms do BBC radio (and vica versa)
