Ok I got to be honest am a little disappointed with JC. The episode to me didn't make a lot of sense. Much preferred the last special.

It's not a great opening episode is it?

Certainly not. I certainly can't understand the decision to let the audience know whodunnit and how so early on, and the 'mystery' involving the Paula Wilcox character was pure filler.

Very poor episode of Jonathon Creek - the weakest I can remember. Such a shame, if next week is like this then I suggest lay it to rest after this. Its not worth bringing back more episodes for them to be pointless.

JC will win the ratings very easily, thats the most important thing for this thread. Besides, the episode has gone down very well across social media outside of DS.

At least the last special had a mystery!

This was all over the place; very little deduction or magic. Essensially a bog standard episode of Columbo with random happenings. And a Sherlock lite character thrown in.

Renwick should have called it a day after the shambles that was The Judas Tree.

No doubt about it, but it may drop heavily next week giving bad PR

You have to question the quality of The Sun's reporters if they think a brand new programme is going to launch in 2 days time with no rehearsals, no billing in the listings, half the presenting team not known etc etc, and this is a plausible story.

If a 'source' told them that pigs were going to fly on Monday, they'd probably run with it.

They've probably got confused that an announcement will be made on Monday with the programme starting at a later date. Equally unlikely to be next next Monday as well.

The gap in Radio Times' Breakfast presenter listing is odd, as others have said, they are always listed week in week out, even at Christmas when the listings come out many weeks in advance

Reviews and word of mouth outside of DS has been good for it. It's only on ds people are moaning about it. Anyway, Jonathan Creek will get 5.5m+ tomorrow, winning its slot by over two to 1. So ratings-wise, which is what we must focus on, it is a big hit.

At least there are only 3 episodes; I think we now know why it's been given a relatively low-profile slot this time around.

Can you hear yourselves? Moan, moan, moan, moan. If you want intellectual drama you should have switched over and watched Edge of Heaven.

JC has moved on. He is married. His dynamic has changed. This story was reflecting that. We needed to see who did it because otherwise we would never have got the Ridley being a dick scenario. It was a decent hours telly and I would much rather watch 3 episodes of JC of this calibre than a whole series of Edge of Heaven or even Law and Order UK. It's a TV programme, not real life.

The BBC are currently airing new scripted content 7 nights out of 7 at 9pm. This is a very strong period for the Beeb and they are currently miles ahead of all other broadcasters in terms of number of hours of original British drama/comedy. Jonathan Creek will continue the channel's strong run of form in drama. It will get 5.5m+, more than double Edge of Heaven.

People on DS are their own worst enemies. There are more toys being thrown out of the prams on this website than anywhere else I've been. There could be the best written, best filmed, best acted and most enthralling drama ever created and DS posters would still slag it off. Of course, everyone can write better than David Renwick. They're full of mystical ideas and resolutions and all can do a better job. I don't know why the BBC or ITV employ programme makers at all. Us DS folk are all better at it and are all able to come up with something we think is brilliant.

Samuel like the BBC spin doctor again I see.

Some negative comment about JC, so he's here posting BBC press releases to try and smooth it over.

Re. wizzywick's comments above, I would say that I'm always keen to give credit where's it due, but JC tonight was completely lacking the essence of what made it such a special and popular show in the first place. As you say, the character has 'moved on', and that's fine, but the plot itself was so disjointed and contrived that I couldn't help but feel disappointed.

Front page news on tomorrow's tabloids of how Susanna Reid has split from her partner. Reid is looking really bad from this. I dont know if it was the BBC who leaked the information, but whoever it was, is doing a good job of turning public opinion against Reid. By the time Reid begins on the new Itv breakfast show, a lot of people will be willing for her [and the new show] to fail, and I cant see the Housewives audience itv craves relating to Reid after such a high profile marital breakup.

Interesting pick of programmes there

I can't hear moaning, but I can read a consensus of tonight's programme.

Not my fault I myself, and others have expectations of Jonathan Creek.

The whole marriage dynamic was already established in 'The Clue of the Savant's Thumb'.

Jonathan Creek is a drama that prides itself on detection and magic; that's what makes it stand out from the other mystery shows. Yet tonight there was very little of either, nor was there a coherent mystery. As I said before, plenty of random happenings, which didn't tie into one another.

It was bog standard filler. I enjoy Renwick's quirky writing as ever, but the plot was very weak.

And given the choice, I'd much rather drink a gallon of tomato juice than stare at Katie Price's bazongas.

Errr, who exactly here professed that they can do a better job than Renwick? Very lazy generalisation of FMs.

I'm now sure how a breakup will turn people against her. Surely people will sympathise?

It's a shame though I was really looking forward to this, and I stupidly thought 3 episodes are not enough. Now I think it's to many

I too was disappointed in Creek. Doesn't mean it won't rate well though.

Declining popular series often do.
