Hi. I wonder if anybody could help me? I have recently bought an Alba DVD player (from Argos) hoping it would replace my now defunct Alba DVD player (I think something went wrong with the laser). The old machine used to play my Twilight Zone dvds but the new machine will not play them at all. They are American dvds. I believe it is possible to make some (all?) machines play other country's dvd's but I cannot find how to do this on the internet. The model of my new Alba is 1620 BUK.

Many thanks.

BBT.

There doesn't seem to be a consistent method across different models of Alba DVD players to set as multi-region. This is probably because Argos have used different manufacturers (they own the brand name). You may have to try a few of the Alba hacks to find the right one.

Alba is just a brand name owned by Argos.

Argos buy their DVD players from multiple budget manufacturers, soi just because a multiregion hack works with one model doesn't mean it will work with another.

If you cannot find a hack for your specific model, try hacks for other similar budget makes such as:

Bush,
Orion,
Pacific
etc.

A quick search suggest to try this hack:

1. Open the tray
2. press the following sequence using the number keys: 98790 (this is equivalent to the code 9879 with the zero at the end representing all regions)
3. Press Close Tray - there should be a sign on the TV screen saying something like 'Region set to 0'
4. Turn off the DVD player for 5 seconds
5. Turn on the DVD player.

Which is what the link I gave in post 3 says
