Mahler's 8th is probably my favourite classical music. The final 40 minutes or so is pure musical heaven...............

I'm not that keen on the first bit with the songs so I tend to skip that

The long final tone poem in Das Lied von der Erde by Mahler is also fantastic

Good old Mahler.......all his symphonies are good.

The long final tone poem in Das Lied von der Erde by Mahler is also fantastic
I've been looking at this to get the proper name - it's 'Der Abschied'......and one of the comments related that the piece was so unrelentingly bleak and sad that Mahler asked a promoter if it was wise to include it in a concert in case all the audience went home and shot themselves.........
