What if it was Ray in the skate off instead?

So the judges claimed that they saved Kieran because Suzanne made mistakes but what if Ray was the one in the skate off against Kieran instead and he made mistakes aswell?

Would the judges have put him out too?

He would've been saved because Matt made mistakes in the skate off last year and they turned a blind eye to that because just like Ray he was their favourite.

Suzanne was miles ahead of Kieran and should've been saved.

In the highly unlikely event that Ray is in a skate off, I think he would have to have a Sebastien style meltdown not to get saved.

Yeah agree with the above, def would have been saved.

This is slightly off topic but didn't want to start a thread. Is Maria Filipov married? Wiki says "Maria Filippov was married to the late Andrei Filippov and has a son, Anton."

Did something happen to her husband

Maria was married and her husband died. She has an 11 year old son Anton. She now lives in Belfast with her son and current partner Eamon McCrory.

They'd use the same excuse as they did with Matt vs. Shayne last year.

"He's performing a much more difficult routine than X, so despite the mistakes, we have to take that into consideration", blah, blah, blah.

The rules are made up as they go along - the show does what it wants and tries to hide behind "rules" being the driving force of their decisions. They're so inconsistent though that it all comes across as a total farce.

Personally I think Kyran would be saved over anyone bar Ray as he seems well in with the judges.

Sorry but I find his performances rather jerky and not very attractive to watch. There is so little grace in it.

No excuses involved, it was the right result. People need to get over it.

Suzanne and Kyran's routines were extremely close. Likely Suzanne would have edged it, but her mistakes and sloppy performance meant his ended up better. You can't argue with this.

if it had been Ray it's harder - his standard would be miles ahead of Kyran so in that sense he could afford to make more mistakes. I think if he had fallen and stumbled and been totally off the mark like Suzanne was though I suspect they would save Kyran

in a proper skating competition errors are penalised, not negate the entire performance. I didn't like Matt but he was clearly way ahead of Shayne. That wasn't the case last night where the two skate offs were close so errors really would matter..

This. Kyran did a good SO, he made a minor mistake which should have meant he went. However Suzanne made 3 pretty major mistakes in hers. If she had only made the 1 (after her 1 footed spin) they would have overlooked it as it was a technically difficult move. However she also made a mistake in her (fairly straightforward) step sequence, and then her exit from the headbanger.

Overall, she also looked under rehearsed. At the end of the day Kyran was better when it counted.

Trouble with the girls is that they spend less time on the ice than the men, with all the lifts.

I totally agree with this and mentioned it in another thread. It does seem really unfair as she was the best of the female skaters and Suzanne won her series, a series that the judges thought Chris Fountain should have won and didn't so they can't have a repeat of that- Suz beating Ray can they?

Thats a result of how the show has run though. There's one story that the winners of duel week were using the routines they worked up for a second skate that week. The losers had to do a new routine. If true that makes one difference - as they have to compose and learn something new in a week.

Even if thats untrue, you have the basic problem of difficulty - which Kyran has brought up. If you can't do big lifts or tricks safely you don't get asked to do them. If you can do them you have to spend time learning something more difficult. Meanwhile, those who can't do them just do something they have done before. Thats apparent in the VTs this week. Suzanne isn't practicising Music - she's shown learning a loop jump no female has done before - for next week - according to Kyran.

It also plays into Suzanne's skate off. Not only doesn't she get as much time to revise what she's done before, but the skate off routine itself has added difficulty since series 3 and she has one of her problems doing the standing exit that no one else has done either.

Its basically set up so that those who try for more difficulty are penalised. They have to take the time and run the risks, and rarely get marks for it. The answer is obvious. As Clare noted, you need a skills test, so everyone has to learn a skill. If you can't do it, you are marked overall out of a lower mark than if you do a simple version, and, if you do the full skill, 10 is available. That stops the current nonsense where lack of difficulty scores more than new skills, or difficult skills with an error performing them.

Yes but she wasn't very likely to beat Ray if she couldn't attract more public votes than Hayley or Beth, and couldn't stay upright during her most popular routine. I liked Suzanne, but I don't think there's any great conspiracy going on here.

Ray wont be going anywhere until the final. Even if he did end up in the skate off the judges would save him. It wont be until the final until we know if Hayley/Beth is doing better with the public than he is. I personally hope both of them are

Hayley's weakness is the technical skating

Beth's weakness is the performance/dancing

You think Ray coming third to them would be a fair result when they are looking for the best of the best

Ray is just about the best non-professional skater I have ever seen.
Not everyone will like him but you can't deny his ability.

Ray coming anywhere other than 1st would make a complete mockery of a 'champion of champions' series.

I never said it was fair but this show doesnt tend to be fair. I would just rather see one of the girls win because I dont like Ray and I dont enjoy his routines. I'd rather watch Kyran or Sam than Ray.

I'm sure Ray will win. But I would vote for the girls over him because I would rather watch them.
