True but they have already made the competition about something else other than being the best.
We haven't seen Chris compete with Ray, and Chris fans may still think his bigger range of moves would have really challenged Ray. Mathew W didn't turn up either - despite being described as the best yet by the judges in his year. Sam has only just started performing - perhaps as they double booked him on top of other commitments. Kyran's been given dull routines, and his difficulty hasn't been counted - even when its been shown. Ray also can't now face the females who could most closely match his tricks and dance skills with their own in the final.
The women's competition was distorted early on, and has since disintegrated. Some people didn't get asked - despite being better than some who did. Jorgie showed her potential to contend for the top by coming second in her heat, and beating Hayley's score - but then went promptly home after a terrible VT. We haven't been allowed to see what Suzanne could do with a simpler high scoring dance routine, like Hayley's, or Beth could do with more routines designed better for her. or if Jorgie could challenge Suzanne.
The show narrative has also been destroyed. No sooner had Suzanne emerged for the third time as the challenger to Ray, than she was oustered by a twist. The judges, meanwhile, had given us a long analysis of why both remaining females were too incomplete- either technically or performancewise - to win. They described Suzanne as the most complete female, and undermined the claim of either of the surviving females to win - a truly bizarre thing to do. Suzanne fans will point out too that she topped the female scores every time she had a strong routine, her routines were often inadequate, and she went out despite being second on the scoreboard, top female, and only because of the pointless twist. Hayley being declared top female after all that, would sound silly.
This is all new territory. I don't think we have had any series where the final results have been shaped so much by routines. In most series few people can do much - here some are underused and poorly served. Nor have we had a twist remove a contender for top 2, or someone really good going in week one. If its not about best male, best female and best overall, you might as well let someone win for something else too. Beth for most improvement, and being nicest, would be a better criteria than many others.
