So its no secret the Newman era was a poor one for the show, however one of the greatest episodes came from Kat and Whitney's scene last year when they decided to renounce the burden's of their childhood and become stronger women.

Does Kat needs to become more of a motherly figure and drop the "tart with a heart" archetype?

Always thought Stacey was the person to have filled Zoe's shoes for Kat.

Not that it's about shoe-filling - she's her own person and they're all Slaters.

Kat may feel able to be a mother figure to her again now she's back - bearing in mind the past difficulties Kat had with Zoe.

Kat could be a great maternal figure to Stacey - especially as Jean's no longer around.

Yes,she does,Characters become stale when they show no sign of progression and development.Kat cant carry on forever sleeping with men and blaming it on her abuse.

I think she could make a good Pat style character.Motherly and capable of dishing out tough love, with a feisty side.I hope she takes Stacey under her wing more and helps her with any bipolar relapses, rather than they revert to the pair of cackling witches they were before. Kat shouldnt tone it down too much appearance before. Its her armour to the world, the makeup and overly tight clothes.

Despite the fact they have only ever spent a few months together on screen, I always thought Kat and Stacey had better chemistry than Kat ever did with Zoe.

This.

I look forward to seeing Kat mature in a houseful of little Moons, I know many people are against it, but I think the eastenders are nicer to watch when they're in a house with a big family like the Butcher/Jackson's and I prefer when characters get a lot of screen time while they're in their own homes.

I'm looking forward to seeing Kat back in a big family, she was at her best with family around her. I do think they should bring back either Mo or Jean and Ollie though.

They should really bring back Jean - it would make no sense whatsoever if they had Stacey move back to the square - living across from the pub where she committed her murder rather than with Jean and Ollie away from trouble...

This. Having twins will be an ongoing reminder of how much she needs Alfie and should stop her from doing anything stupid again. They've got what they wanted back in 2005 and it should help her to see that not everything in her life goes wrong, a thought I think has contributed to her being defined by her abuse for so long.

(That's the most reasonable explanation I can think of, but it was essentially because Birkwood couldn't think of anything else.)

Alfie used to be a wheeler dealer type character and I liked him as part of a family, I liked when he got a job in the Vic he made it fun and was the reason the mitchells owning the pub hadn't yet become monotonous, but ever since he became Landlord of the vic he became to big for his boots and wasn't that likeable anymore.

But now that he's getting back to his family man / wheeler dealer roots I think he will become likeable again...

And Little Mo and Charlie, both actors have said they would come back if they were asked.

Building up the Slaters again should be top priority.

I suppose he could make a slight improvement from utterly detestable to manageable in small doses (nanoseconds).

I'm very much for giving people a chance you see.

Kat is at her best when she's with her family and not shagging random men.

Bring back Jean, Ollie and Big Mo and have Charlie make appearances every now and then.

Perhaps but going around the Square intimidating and bullying people like Tamwar?

Charming and delightful pair.

To be fair, I felt that Stacey and Kat's behaviour was exaggerated by the fact that Kat had just returned and Stacey was due to depart. Kirkwood seemed ignorant of a lot of character history and it was like he was bringing in a new character. New characters that are intended to be fiesty tend to get a lot of 'fun' scenes, as Ronnie and Roxy did when they were introduced. We also had Pat seeming to confront Stacey more than Kat when Stacey revealed that Archie had raped her. That was an ideal oppprtunity for the characters to bond without it being at someone else's expense and it was wasted.

Couldn't agree more. Now along with Bee and Kat, Stacey will probably join in to form a trio of market bullies who mick Tamwar every time he walks past. Boring as he may be, he doesn't deserve to be bullied.

This. Kirkwood butchered Kat's character; he made her into a total bitch, something she had never been.

Kat and Stacey slapping their way round Walford in 2010 was not true to Kat's original character - that disgracefully violent R&R catfight sticks out in my mind, as well as that horrific scene of Stacey and Janine fighting in the mud.

However, Kat and Stacey's double act during the 2005 murder storyline was great to watch.

The "Tart with a heart of gold" persona ended for most viewers when she finally moved on from her sexual abuse back in 2005. The reason why it didn't work when she returned in 2010 as she was completely regressed back to an unlikeable version of when she first arrived on the square originally.

Kat as a character needs to keep on moving forward if she is going to have a long term future on the square. Sexual abuse never leaves a person, but there is absolutely no reason why it has to define her now.

Why does thay mean she has to go from the shortened name of 'Kat' to 'kathleen'?

I hope Nancy steps in to protect him if that's the case, she could take any of that lot on.

I don't mind strong or "feisty" characters but I despise bullies, they're one of my pet hates.
