Best special effects in Doctor Who since 2005

I just thought that, now we have better technology since the days of 'old' Who, I wondered what people thought was their favourite 'special effects' moment.

Mine has to be when DT's Doctor regenerated into Matt Smith's Doctor in the End of Time part 2.

I also liked Prof. Yana/Master's regeneration in Utopia. All of the Yellow energy coming out of him was great.

Are there any more effects that you think are great?

I rather liked the 3D paintings in Day of the Doctor

eccleston to tennant regeneration. rather than just one face to another it was a gradual morph from eccleston's face to tennant's, then tennant's hair popping up to complete the transformation. I was also impressed with how realistic the william hartnell and clara scene in name of the doctor looked, especially since some of the scene's from the other doctor's, where there footage would have been old but still newer than any hartnell stuff, looked terrible.

The Ecclesake's regeneration into Davey T was pretty good.

The Parliament of the Daleks was also very effective.

This one is simple but effective, the way that in new who when the TARDIS doors are open you can see the console room.
I know that its just a translite on the back panel, but its much better than in the classics where there looked like nothing there!
I suppose its partly down to the doors issue though where there is only one set of doors now where there was two sets in classic!

I loved the spaceship/Tardis graveyard in The Doctor's Wife. Worthy of a big budget film, even though it was a static-ish shot. Beautifully done.

Oh, and I fully agree about the interior of the Tardis being seen through the doors. Simple but so effective.

I like the bit in Journey's End, when the Doctor says to Davros "Davros! Come with me, I can save you!"

At that point, the Crucible is crumbling around everyone present, about to blow up. The effects were so good. That scene is a favourite of mine.

I really loved the TARDIS crashing at the start of The Christmas Invasion. Perhaps a little simple by now, but at the time it was an amazing way to start the episode. Also, all the glass shattering on the Gherkin. Very good!

The Slitheen spaceship crashing into Big Ben from Aliens In London. Not one of my favourite episodes (though it's still good IMO) but that effect is absolutely spectacular.

Eccleston to Tennant regeneration, for the same reasons given by doctor blue box. The eruption of hair was particularly great.

The cars soaring up into the sky at the end of Gridlock - accompanied by the music, and the Doctor's speech about Gallifrey - magical.

The sky tearing in two as the Toclafane descend in The Sound of Drums. I find it genuinely unnerving.

The never-ending Library in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. Wonderfully surreal.

There are probably many others, but they spring immediately to my mind.

Might seem a bit tame, but I'm very fond of the way they created the starry starry night in the scene in question from Vincent and the Doctor.

I've just re-watched the clip that I posted on this thread from 'Journey's End'. I totally forgot that the Meta-Crisis version of DT's Doctor actually said to Donna "I am the Doctor!"

So does this mean we have to class the 'Clone' as a Doctor?

Oh. I hadn't thought of that... I dunno! I think I'll wait for other people to comment.

Maybe another thread should be started about this. I mean, this is supposed to be about the Best Special Effects Since 2005.

I know I started the question after watching the clip again.

I'll put another thread up, and see what people think.

Yes your right another thread for that would work and I know people can easily get to it, but post a link to it so it follows on!

Talking about the effects in the rebel flesh/almost people for showing two of the same actor at once, that a very effective special effect!
Its also used in Journeys End too!

Clara riding the motorbike into the TARDIS in Day Of The Doctor.

All in the same shot - and it looked seamless.

As part of my Matt Smith era rewatch, I was watching A Christmas Carol last night and was surprised at how good Planet Ember looked from space:

It just looks lovely and the clouds look very realistic.

Similarly, the single shot from outside to TARDIS to plane in Bells... was very well done.

Ah with the plane shot could they not have built the plane interior next to the TARDIS set?

All of this was very good

This is gonna sound stupid but putting a face onto a 2D flesh/skin trampoline held vertically was pretty cool back in the early days of eccleston.
