This is just a speculation, but does anyone else think the recipe has changed? It used to have a nice warm milk aftertaste but now it is less fragrant and more burnt sugary IMO.
I am just curious if anyone agrees or if it is my imagination.

Lol! I used to love the stuff esp Creme Eggs. I guess this is the first year I won't be complaining that they are getting smaller every year because I will be complaining about the flavour!

Shape and taste perception perhaps. Its an OK chocolate selling millions of bars a year so the general public seem to still find it OK.

Thanks for that! Very interesting article, I am very glad that the recipe has not been changed, only my perception.

I made the mistake of clicking on the mumsnet link. Those people are unhinged.

I been going off Cadburys chocolate for a while now the last time I had some, I did notice a difference and it had nothing to do with the shape as I did not even see the shape, I was offered a square from someone.
I think I been used to decent stuff, not the crap we make in this country. strange because I am normally one of these people that prefer to buy local and prefer stuff produced in this country, but we can not make chocolate.

I think Cadbury is crap and barely passes as chocolate. But great chocolate is most definitely made and sold in the UK. From Green and Blacks to Hotel Chocolat and dozens of artisanal producers in between.

I cannot detect any change.

Moving on to Nestle, When the 4 finger Kit Kat changed its wrapper from metal foil with a paper wrapper, to a plastic wrapper, I thought the taste changed....

You have not eaten it for years and yet you remember it was a 'square' even though you did not see it?

A tad off topic but does anyone else think that McVities digestives are not the biscuit they once were?

Green and black is Cadburys.
I suppose the smaller producers are ok, but at a price. I prefer Swiss Chocolate to be honest.

I was given a square, but I did not look what shape it was. I have not eaten a bar of it for years.
I was never fond of Cadburys anyway, too sweet for me.

Never liked McVities digestives much to be honest, i use to like Littlewoods years ago, the best ones you could get. I prefer Hovis Digestives when I can find them. so i can't really tell you if they have changed or not.

i know their ginger nuts are almost tasteless now, i prefer to by Sainsburys Be good to your self ones, they seems to have more ginger in them. We used to have some in our local shop, called Happy Shopper or something like that, they was crazy, so gingery.
I make my own now and again.

If you like ginger biscuits then Border biscuits produce some really nice ones, but they are not cheap, you looking at £1.60 for around 15 biscuits. I only buy them when they are on offer.

You're right. I should have said Dairy Milk is crap. But Green and Black is Cadbury's in the same way Cadbury's is Kraft isn't it? It started out on its own, was bought out by a bigger company, but they still make their chocolate.

Do you like Milka and Toblerone?

The problem is a lot of these companies keep things the same for a while and then bit by bit things change.

If i said yes, you would say they are owned by Kraft, I know that and the answer is, i used to like Toblerone as a child, but I have not had any for years, my sister is the one that likes Toblerone, My Mum used to buy her a big bar, um, bar is the wrong word really, anyway she used to buy her a large bar of it at christmas.

Milka, I have tried, it is ok and that is about it, I did try the chocolate drink for my Tassimo, it was better than the Cadburys one funny enough

i just tried some cadburys chocolate, they have this ritz and chocolate stuff, so I had a try of it and it was awful, really sweet. Got it in our Morrsions. I only tried it because someone on Facebook said it was nice.

Is that a fact? Sounds specious.

Cadbury's added palm oil to Dairy Milk before Kraft bought them. I wonder if Mums-netters complained about "cultural vandalism" then.

Ewww no, never. I've always had a particular fondness for Cadbury's chocolate and an intense dislike of milk, so the former would've been impossible for me had it ever actually tasted of milk.

However, I do agree with you that there's been a change in the taste. I first noticed it with the cadbury's easter eggs in 2012. It wasn't like Cadbury's chocolate at all.

What I've noticed is that Cadbury love to use the ingredient "Vegetable Fat" which is basically just oil/fat

I think somewhere in the media - a few weeks ago? - it was said that McVities digestives have been using a healthier oil for the biscuit in recent years (it's not the exact original recipe ) but there's talk of going back to the original, slightly less healthy recipe because of complaints about the taste AND it's lack of dunkability in tea.

'Healthier' fats are higher in unsaturated fatty acids, which means they are softer. Changing the fat will change the texture and mouthfeel

I love Green & Blacks , especially those little mini bar boxes they do. Just enough chocolate in each bar to be satisfying

I've always found Cadburys to be a bit gritty, don't mind Galaxy now and again though

You're right but they are reverting to the 'classic' recipe (well almost)
