I am running a number of polls to discover the favourite story for each Doctor. This one is for the Fifth Doctor.

Please note: The poll can sometimes take a while to appear.

This poll will be open for 7 days.

Earthshock affected me like no other Davison story - episode one alone is sensationally frightening!

The fact a companion dies is important, but anyone who thinks this story relies on that end-of-story-shock really needs to watch it again.

Even if Adric had been rescued, this would still be an astonishingly powerful tale. For the first time in many years, I genuinely didn't feel safe. Having the invincible 4th Doctor in this story would have changed it entirely, because having the young, fresh faced and not-so-invincible 5th Doctor gave it an unnerving edge.

And no Beryl Reid is not miscast. She's bloody marvellous in this!

That's easier than the Tom poll!

Enlightenment gets gold, with Kinda and Caves also in the medals positions.

The Awakening for me. One of the most underrated little gems in 80s Who (although, God knows, those were few and far between)

This is the one that I've found impossible. I know that PD's episodes have had something of a resurgence recently, but I couldn't find one that I'd volunteer to watch - unless it was while I was trying to go to sleep and without my contact lenses in... Whether it's Beryl Reid's obvious bemusement at what's going on (which she confirmed, I recall) and you can only cheer Adric's unceremonious dispatch so often, Rodney Bewes' "confusion in my mind" (ranking close to "not the mind probe" in delivery)... or even "not the mind probe!" in the Five Doctors... It was just too painful to say that a single one of them was a favourite. Maybe if I'm feeling a bit more charitable in a day or two I'll come back and vote for the return of Jason King for sheer camp factor.

Mawdryn Undead.
But I also like Earthshock, Enlightenment and Black Orchid.

I loved most of PD's reign as the Doctor. Instant No 1 that sprang to mind was Earthshock! Action-packed, well-directed, nice touches of humour and tragedy, and the return of the new-look cybermen ("Excellent"!).
I can honestly say that the Least favourite for me was Caves Of Androzani. I never understood the appreciation of that story. Even Peter D loved it! Surely I'm not the only one!

I voted Kinda,

This is my favourite 5th doctor story - mostly due to the barnstorming performance from Simon Rouse.

I seem to remember it came bottom of the Doctor Who Monthly "season poll". It was quite derided at the time but I always liked it too.

Caves of Androzani. Great script, acting and Peri's cleavage!

You genuinely think that Timeflight is better than Androzani?
Really?

At this moment in time, Enlightenment.

Can't say much more than this!

Some great stories in this Era. Earthshock, The Visitation, Black Orchid, Kinda, Mawdryn Undead, Resurrection Of The Daleks.

However The Caves Of Androzani still tops the lot and is one of the best Doctor Who stories ever made imo.

Caves of Androzani is an easy choice in the era of my least favourite Doctor.

I take Daveyboy's points about Earthshock in a previous thread but for me personally it bores me to tears. Action sequences in Doctor Who are the moments my attention wanes and that serial is one long one.

I chose The Caves of Androzani. This story is easily my all-time favourite from Peter Davison's Era.

If you have over an hour to spare, then this is the studio recording of 'Caves'. Sorry for the quality. The uploader explains in more detail in the description.

This is another clip that someone has uploaded. It is the COA regeneration, with new effects. What do you think? I love it!!

I thought action sequences in DW are an important part of the show? Isn't that one reason why DW is so popular today? Without those you lose half the fun.

Anyway, I thought Earthshock was good. My favourite scene from that was when Cybermen get into the Tardis and Nyssa has to 'deal' with them. She manages to get hold of a Cyber-gun and blows one up.

I voted Earthshock because basically, it was a spectacular return for the Cybermen and probably the best big bad reveal in the shows history, imo never beaten.

However, Caves, Mawdryn and Visitation were very close behind!

Earthshock for me. I really enjoyed The Visitation and this runs is a close second. Mawdryn, Enlightenment and The Awakening are favourites as well.

I can see Caves is good but it's a bit brutal for me. Although thelast few minutes of both episodes 3 & 4 are 2 of Doctor Who's greatest moments in my opinion

Kinda! The whole production makes me feel slightly nauseous, but I think out of empathy.

Earthshock or the five Doctors. Earthshock is just an amazing story, and it kills off Adric!

The Five Doctors is nostalgic fun, and that makes up for a lot of its short comings. Plus the Raston Warrior Robot's instant travel that takes about 5 minutes to jump anywhere...

Earthshock for me but overall not a great fan of Davisons Doctor. Bit wet and pathetic. Didn't have much gravitas IMO and not very convincing.

Terminus.

Just kidding. Ertshock, Visitation and Mawdrynb Undead are my favourites

I voted for "The Visitation" although it wasn't easy, I also really like "Mawdryn Undead", "The Five Doctors" and a lot of others. In fact, there isn't a single Peter Davison episode that I wouldn't enjoy watching repeatedly and he's my favorite Classic Who Doctor after Tom Baker. And, unlike Baker, who's last seasons I don't care for, I like all of Davison's seasons.
