Can I receive Hotbird or any other satellite with channels on existing sky mini dish?
Is this possible?
I live in the southwest in plymouth coast, i read somewhere that people can get hotbird on there mini dish, only a digi box is required. Im getting annoyed with sky and there prices and seeking other options. Idealky i would like to pick up some footy. Thanks for reading |

Only if you align the dish on the satellite(s) you want to receive.

You may be better off looking in this section
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/forum...c&daysprune=-1 Bear in mind though that a lot, if not the majority, of football will be encrypted/subscription required and the Sky receiver is not suitable. Also, AFAIK, the Sky box is not very friendly for use on other satellites than 28E For what matches are on where and the encryption used have a look here http://liveonsat.com/quickindex.html And for what's on Hotbird look here http://en.kingofsat.net/pos-13E.php you can filter the list to show FTA only |

Whilst it is possible to fit another LNB on a Sky mini-dish a fair bit of ingenuity is required as AFAIK there's no specific bracket available to do this.
Also keep in mind the 15° separation between 28E and 13E is probably pushing it a bit. LNBs for 19E and 28E have been achieved with some success http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...1512308&page=2 Far better to use an 8Ocm (or, at a push, 60cm) with a suitable mounting bracket if you want to go the multiple LNB route. Again, unsuitable for a Sky box as it doesn't support DiSEqC switching |

If the OP really wants to use Sky, a second box for Hotbird would eliminate the need for diseqc switching. If only SD viewing is required it wouldn't cost very much. Loads on e-bay starting at about £20.00 and much less for used ones.

Thanks for your advice, im looking at other options cause im totally fed up with sky and ther. Fees, been a customer for 3yrs and still cant give me a good deal.
As for footy i would rather get european satellite and pay a subscription of some sort, im sure its cheaper than 400 or so a year. Im thinking am i right i could buy a diy kit from b&q? Ive seen that there before and wondered there kit is unlocked to view any sattelite. Thanks |

Thanks On most you won't get a proper epg like you do on a Sky/Freesat and you have to keep the channel line ups up to date yourself. Hotbird fta channels http://en.kingofsat.net/freqs.php?&p...q&filtre=Clear For subscription channels you need a box with a CI (Conditional Interface) and a suitable CAM (Conditional Access Module) to hold the card required to decrypt the content. |

http://www.creativesatellite.co.uk/c...ing_Cards.html and http://www.digicams-uk.com/category41_1.htm This really should be in here http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=143 where there's plenty of advice on satellite matters |
