YouTube: Cannot Post Comments
D.Page
20-02-2014
I have never had any trouble before, but for the last few days, I have tried posting comments underneath YouTube videos, after first logging into my YouTube account, but, at present, when I try to add a comment, it just continually says "Opening..." in my comment box, and I cannot type anything in. Can anybody please help.

You are aware that you need a Google+ account now to be able to comment on a Youtube video (just checking)?

Thank you. I can't say I remember, when signing up for a YouTube account, that I signed up for a Google+ account also, but it appears that I do have a Google+ account. When I select Google+ (one of the options at top-right of screen when in YouTube account), I see that I have a Google+ profile etc. Bearing this in mind, would you expect me to have any problems posting comments on YouTube, or do I need to do anything else to allow this?

I've had the exact same problem for two weeks.

I'm (still) using Windows XP, and Internet Explorer 8 (version 8.0.6001.18702 to be precise). Can I ask, are you using either, or both, yourself?

Yep, still using both.

I'm no expext on this, but could it possibly be a buggy update related to IE8, which both of our computers have recently downloaded/installed, and which is currently causing this issue for both of us?

Yes, I think the above is the route of the problem. I've just logged into my YouTube account via my sister's laptop (Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 9) and, underneath the videos, it allows me to type into my comment box with no problem at all (and without any display of 'Opening...' in the comment box either). I suppose all we can do is wait for the next IE8 update, and hope that this is free from any bugs which may be causing this. I understand we do not have the option of updating from IE8 to IE9, as IE9 is not compatible with Windows XP.

Probably is. Hopefully it will resolve itself soon enough.

In general, I think YouTube has been a disaster since Google Plus hijacked it. It's always glitchy, slow and prone to errors.

If anyone is still having problems with this, use Google Chrome and the problem should be solved. Seems to be an issue with Internet Explorer.

I found that resigning in solved my issues with this lately, I do not use IE and appeared to be logged in, But couldn't thumb or post comments.

Thanks, Big Boy Barry. I installed Firefox, and when using this instead of IE8, I have no problem posting comments on Youtube. So, unless/until IE8 gets an update to sort this out, I'll keep using Firefox whenever I want to post comments on Youtube.
