I was thinking of subscribing to netflix until someone told me I could use it via a mates account with no extra cost. Is this true? Would have thought they would be losing a lot of money if everyone was using people's log in details

Not sure it is meant for that but you can watch it on two Screen/devices simultaneously on the £5.99 plan, think it is £8.99 for 4 screens/devices

^^Sorry it's not nice, by doing this your potentially making it harder for them to make original content, your in effect making it more expensive for other users. If you can't afford £5.99 a month don't go out and steal it.

Your the very person, that will now come back and say "there's nothing on there, that I want to watch, and why haven't they bought so and so"

I do when you basically come on here and gloat about stealing is £5.99 so much to pay each month. And if everyone took your attitude, then they'd go under and we'd be stuck with Sky

It's not stealing. Netflix offer 2 streams at a time for £5.99 a month. He should pay the friend £3 a month though.

I haven't even used it yet. I was only asking a question. What agreement me and my friend come to is irrelevant

I know, but you know as well as I do thats aimed at the account holder and a family member, say in another room, at a stretch maybe a sibling at college etc.

Not for the account holder to just give out to his mates.

I just don't get the whole trying to avoid £5.99 for a service which IMHO is the best available including BBC/Sky etc.

Just done a little research for the OP apparently Netflix take a dim view of streaming to 2 different IPs so if you and your mate are both watching at the same time, they could in theory cancel the account.

But your not saving money, I take it you don't have Netflix at the moment, so you can't be saving anything, your just trying to avoid paying for a new service.

If money is that tight that you can't afford £5.99pcm, then can I suggest you get your priorities right.

Source? I share Netflix with my sister who's at Uni and have had no problems whatsoever.

That could never work, I watch Netflix on my iphone with various different IP addresses while my OH watches at home on the PS3, they wouldn't have the app if it was going to cause the possibility of wrongfully cancelling a subscription

What a crock of you know what, Netflix allows up to 2 devices on the standard price plan, they also allow travelling while abroad so if I'm travelling then my wife or kids can also use Netflix at home.
Also if someone wants to give out their login details to another then that's entirely up to them, but personally if one of my mates asked me if they could use my account I'd tell them to bog off.

Actually what he is saying is right, they are happy for household members to share accounts which was the reason for profiles but with what is effectively reselling their service they are much less ok with. Its not that easy for them to tell between the legit and non-legit sharing but people have been banned when being obvious about it

Where do you draw the line though? If you pay for an account which can have 2 people simultaneously active, why is it deemed Ok for someone to let a family member use it but not a life long friend?

As I said they can ban, wether they would or could even prove it is a different matter. Netflix is designed so 2 family members (basically living at the same address) can share 1 account as I said, so like the posts mention a sibling at Uni, a family member traveling etc. What they don't want is as the Op suggested is people giving away access to mates etc.

Sky used to have the same sort of thing, you could go around your mates with your sky card, and use it on their sky box, if for instance you had movies or sports etc. But people started abusing the system by poping down to their local with their card with sky sports and basically lending it to the pub to use. So now Sky have made it impossible for that to happen. I'm sure if Netflix see an abuse of their system, they will introduce a similar system and only allow one IP access at one time.

Why is it a crook of Sh*t, you say that then basically agree with what I've said, it's ok to share within the household but to to your mates and non household residents.

The crock was that you can't use 2 devices in 2 different locations which you can as they don't have to be within the same house/location as using mobile devices can and will show 2 different IPs. Obviously in normal circumstances this isn't actually the same as sharing your account with others outside of your own household, but then surely Netflix would need some evidence to say the other location wasn't used by one of your household.
The part I do agree with you on is having the cheek to ask to use someone else's account.

Yes my apologies if I mislead lead, I was referring to basically different people (non family etc) not when used by the same account holding family.
