Where do you draw the line though? If you pay for an account which can have 2 people simultaneously active, why is it deemed Ok for someone to let a family member use it but not a life long friend?
You aren't paying for unlimited users though. The terms and conditions mention a few times HOUSEHOLD in relation to account sharing.

I would imagine they look at the device ids that are connecting and the IP's they are using. If there's an unusual amount of devices connecting in close time proximity from different IP's and these devices never use the same IP they will look on it with suspicion

The problem is if people abuse it we risk the copyright holders insisting that Netflix are stricter with the number of devices allowed to access the service. Based on the T&C their contract with the right holders seems to generally be that 6 Devices are allowed access as they make mention of six registered devices. We already see this happening with Sky and their Sky Go service where you have to nominate two devices (or 4 if you pay extra) and only those can access which would be bad for everyone because if you have 4 profiles then and each has a mobile device they watch netflix on it would mean you can only register 2 more computers/smartTVs/Streaming boxes.

If we don't want service locked down and we want the servies to be able to get (or create) the content and offer it at a reasonable price then as consumers we have a duty not to abuse the service.

Its like when you mentioned TPB earlier, if you download stuff you wouldn't have bought but would like to sample and if you do enjoy it you buy it then fine but if people start illegally downloading stuff they would buy just to save money then that's a problem

The part I do agree with you on is having the cheek to ask to use someone else's account.
Both of you are chatting a crock of dog mess as I haven't at any point said I've asked to use someone else's account

^^ Thats true to be fair you did say that someone had told you, you could share a mates account. But you did say "nice one" when it was mentioned that you can have 2 users using the same account, then it was pointed out that users refers to "family members" not mates, and then called me a "jobs worth" for mentioning that.

Actually I only replied when you mentioned "nice one", and then pointed out that what was proposed wasn't really in the spirit of what Netflix implied when they allowed multiple sharing of 1 account.

Nice one for responding to my question. IF I do get netflix I would more than likely look to go halves with my mum on a new account. But you took it upon yourself to assume I just wanted to gatecrash my friends without paying.

To be fair there is a general air of 'I don't want to pay for things' even if that wasn't what you intended

You didn't actually say that in your OP, but sharing with your mum is more in line with Netflixs policy, so I can get off my high horse now!!
