really enjoyed the episodes this weekend, and don't have a slightest clue who America will choose, I don't understand the top 13, why not 10 (5 & 5) or 12 (6 & 6), guess we'll find out next week!
although I won't, I'm away till Tuesday so will have 5 hours worth to catch up on before Saturday

I do not like Harry as a judge, sorry. Keith And Jennifer are great on the panel though. I would have kept Randy, or Mariah as a judge, to sit next to Keith and Jennifer, instead of Harry.

Thanks for starting the thread Clarky
![]() I like all the judges although I find myself disagreeing with Harry quite a lot! He can be very funny, though. Looking forward to Hollywood week. |

I like Harry. I don't always agree with him, but he's not won over by gimmicks and he tries to give constructive criticism whereas J-Lo and Keith (to an extent) tend to be a bit too fulsome with their praise. Overall though the panel is *so* much better than last year ...

Would he seem "too serious" and too "all about the singing" for X Factor? |

Would he seem "too serious" and too "all about the singing" for X Factor? That's an interesting question. I think Harry is a bit of an anomaly as a 'singing show competition' judge. He does know music inside and out, and backwards and forwards; probably more than any other judge that's been on any of these sorts of shows, but I don't think that's why he's different. With Harry, I think he feels it's his job to constructively point out how they can improve. The contestants of these shows have family, fans and the other judges to point out how talented they are. He's paid to critique them and offer them an expert opinion, not sit there looking pretty and pointing out the obvious. That's not to say he won't give a more subjective opinion, or praise a performance too. I just think that's his style, I should imagine one he inherited from his own training in music. He's actually not 'mean' in the slightest. He doesn't sit there and say the performance sounded like 'a bag of kittens being shot' or anything like that. His critiques are to the point, and based on technical or lyrical aspects of the performance that he think did/didn't work. So maybe his style would be a bit jarring for some on X Factor UK too. I think it's a very divisive style. You either get exactly where he's coming from and why he's doing it or you don't. I personally love it. Even if I don't agree with him all the time, I at least understand the critique and why he thinks it and appreciate him trying to help the contestants. It's very 'teacher-ish'; he challenges them in the hopes that they can fine tune their style as an artist, and their technical ability. Of course The X Factor is a different style of show, as the judges are more involved with the contestants. I'm not sure how successful a 'mentor' he would be. I think he would be fantastic, but not successful. I think the advice and choices he would give to contestants would be spot on, but I don't think it would be things that the mainstream audience would care about. As slouchingthatch said, the panel as a threesome works well this year. They all compliment each other well. I think in the past the other two have held back a little with the panels they were on, but I think having Harry there actually gives them freedom to critique more, while still being viewed as 'nice'. They're a very sweet, fun and caring panel, as well as having that important level of constructive critique there. |

I get the impression this year's judges enjoy working together - something that categorically wasn't the case last year! |

Right, I have now found this thread, so will comment here rather than the other one I was using.
As I have mentioned before, the time AI is shown this year really puts off those people who like to comment as the show is broadcast - who watches it at 5 pm on a Saturday? I record it and get round to watching sometime during the week. So, we now know (almost) the last 30 - I would probably have kept both Ben and CJ. To me there have been few standout performances at all, so I am a long way from having a favourite (I quite liked Laurel White but she vanished at some stage). I usually prefer the girls, especially if there is a good country singer, but none of them stick in my mind. I still keep thinking of Brandie Love from X-Factor US whose performance was praised to the skies but didn't make the top 40. I like the way that Keith has grown into his role - not sure about his new haircut though! Jennifer seems reluctant to make hard decisions and it has been refreshing to have Harry come out with valid musical comments (some of his antics are a bit odd for my taste though). |

Didn't know it was on clarky, found it by accident a few minutes ago, and don't know if I want to watch.
Heard CJ Harris just now, and to me he sang flat, and needs more guitar work too...4/10 |

This show must be a repeat of yesterday, as I just remembered it was Sunday today, and no wonder no one is about!

I was coming on here to ask the same question. It's definitely not on this weekend or the following one (15/16 March). Given there was no gap between the broadcast of the 'Rush Week' and Top 13, plus the delay between what's on in the US and here in the UK, there seems to be no good reason for taking the episodes off at all - especially at such a low prominence time like Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Doesn't look good really!
BTW, I've submitted a question on their website! God knows if or when they'll answer it, but I'll definitely report back, if I hear from them! I have complained to them. There wasn't even an announcement at the end of Sundays show. The reason it probably didn't do well is the fact it was on at a stupid time on a Saturday and Sunday. Does anybody know of a website that i can watch it on? If you also want to complain the phone number is 020 8612 7700 I'm furious. |

I use Delishows to watch it on, it's better all round. 5 (and ITV2 before them) hacked the show to bits in the edit. This is the actual transmission of the show (commercial free), but with the ability to fast forward/ rewind.
Really poor form from Channel 5, here. |

Would he seem "too serious" and too "all about the singing" for X Factor? What I like about him is that he mentions ALL poor intonation (yes, intonation! Imagine him blinding the other judges with that type of term!) so he would sound like a broken record in every show. He talks about pentatonics and 9ths - ditto above. But most importantly, on AI, the contestants know what he is talking about, so he is not wasting his time. If he were on XF, it would be the equivalent of having Meryl Streep performing in your local panto. |

Thanks very much for contacting them. I'm really gutted as I was enjoying this season a lot. My mum - who has no way of getting the episodes the 'alternative' way - will be so gutted. She's watched the UK broadcast of this show since season 2. She's a huge fan of the show.
Really poor decision by Channel 5. I can't believe it was slot blocking some primetime slot that will garner anywhere near the ratings they were getting. However bad they were, what on earth gets 'good' ratings at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon?! This was almost set up as a failure. Hunting around for the show in the weekend schedule was a kind of sport to begin with. No wonder the viewer numbers were bad. No promotion, never on at the same time two week's in a row. And then they use the 'poor ratings' excuse. I agree that there should be an effort to raise a stink about this. Cancellation without even the decency to announce it was being cancelled - utterly shitty move from 5*. I'll certainly be contacting them asap. |

What appalling treatment. From its two-week delay and scheduling it was already pretty obvious they weren't keen on the show, but this is ridiculous. I'm sure they've got a really high quality replacement to take AI's place ...
It's not as if they're freeing up a prime-time slot or saving any money, as they paid for the rights to pick up the show for two years initially. Thanks for nothing, Five. |

Really pissed off about this - just as I was getting to know who everyone is and had picked a couple of favourites.
Shows Channel 5 up as being a Mickey Mouse channel - you wouldn't find other channels treating their viewers so badly. |
