What appalling treatment. From its two-week delay and scheduling it was already pretty obvious they weren't keen on the show, but this is ridiculous. I'm sure they've got a really high quality replacement to take AI's place ...

It's not as if they're freeing up a prime-time slot or saving any money, as they paid for the rights to pick up the show for two years initially. Thanks for nothing, Five.
I agree. However, channel 5 tend to drop shows in the middle. It wouldn't be so bad if they waited until the season has finished. But, to remove a show, during the middle, is terrible treatment towards fans of shows.

Really pissed off about this - just as I was getting to know who everyone is and had picked a couple of favourites.

Shows Channel 5 up as being a Mickey Mouse channel - you wouldn't find other channels treating their viewers so badly.
I agree. It seems like the channel has no respect for its viewers.

I use Delishows to watch it on, it's better all round. 5 (and ITV2 before them) hacked the show to bits in the edit. This is the actual transmission of the show (commercial free), but with the ability to fast forward/ rewind.

Really poor form from Channel 5, here.
Found it on Delishows but keeps saying i need to register for a free account and supply my card number which i dont want to do.
Any other ideas?
I sent an email of complaint to Channel 5. Wont do any good but it made me feel a bit better after venting my anger.

Some more on this for you - apparently it's been put on a hiatus and WILL return at some point in the summer...

What's the point in that? By then we would have forgotten who everyone is and would more than likely know who wins. If they think viewing figures are bad now, they'll be even worse if they show the second half of the series 5 months later!

Well, that's something I suppose! But, showing a live broadcast talent show months after the winner is announced - and the media do tend to report these things(!) - seems so pointless. If they can broadcast AI in the summer, what is stopping them from doing so right now? Sounds like a touch of bullsh*t response to placate a bunch of angry viewers, they hadn't realised were watching! We shall see if anything comes of the promise to show the remaining 11 or so week's of AI.

In any case, thanks to DS for doing a report about this, and getting a more comprehensive response than any of us were able to. I sent my story suggestion to them very late last night - nice fast turnaround, DS!

So for those viewers who are unable to watch on line, they have to avoid the result for months. I've never heard anything so stupid.

It is dreadful treatment of viewers.
They bought the rights to the show started showing it so lest finish it off

Exactly. Why doesn't Channel 5 just show the rest of the series now?

Absolutely pathetic from 5*.

This might sound ridiculous, but would a petition be able to change their mind?

I doubt it! There are a lot of mid-season cancellations (particularly of US shows) going on right now at Channel 5. This looks far more like a station edict, to eliminate anything that costs them money to broadcast, and doesn't make the necessary profit margins for Channel 5. They're in some trouble right now - they bought the station at a huge cost, and the money simply doesn't add up. There was talk of them selling, but the figure they asked was just laughably large. So AI being taken off the channel right now maybe balances the books for 5* in the short term. However, they've already paid for the rights to AI, though I have no idea what additional outlays are involved in showing the episodes week to week, above and beyond what has already been paid for.

On the other hand, making a complaint about the cancellation direct to the station registers your interest in the show - and that's something perhaps the BARB rating figures are likely not reflecting the true interest in this show. At least it may persuade them not to leave such a ridiculously huge gap before showing the rest of the episodes. I've emailed my complaint to them, lets hope a slew of others makes them reconsider such a lengthy gap in the broadcast.

Came on here to ask how far behind America we were (didn;t want to google it in case of spoilers) I didn't expect to read they'd dropped for the foreseable future. I hadn't noticed on my Sky planner that it wasn't series linked for this weekend. What a joke. My mum and dad watch it too, and they really don't have the time to fuss about catching up on however many episodes to get up to US pace, to then also have to watch it online. I'm not sure I'll have the time to catch up either.

5* is hardly a big channel, I can't imagine the viewing figures were that much worse than for any other TV show on a similar sized channel? What else are they going to show at that time slot on a Saturday that is going to get them more?

The programmes are edited for the UK, though, i think. If it's channel 5 funding the editing then presumably that's a cost that would not be incurred for other things they might show?

It is certainly annoying, though. I usually try to avoid download sites because they're rife with viruses and spyware. I went to the dellshows site but five minutes later found it had installed some application I'd not asked for which had altered the homepage and search tab on all my browsers to try to take me to a page which McAfee warned me had unsafe links

It took me half an hour to remove the thing and get my browsers pointing back to normal

Just come on here to find out what was happening with the show and I am shocked and appalled that they have pulled the show mid season. I feel like I have wasted my time watching all auditions and Hollywood week etc. Any idiot could have told that by putting it on Sat and Sunday instead of a week night that viewing figures would be down and i expect alot of people don't even realise it is on 5* anyway cos there has been no publicity. So that means we will never get to see AI again on UK tv unless another broadcaster picks up the next series. Channel 5 are a total disgrace, they could have at least shown it 6am or something like that, but to take it off air completely is totally out of order. The only saving grace for me is that the american viewers dont to think much of this final 12 but I did still want to watch it.

Given that I suspect many people recorded the programme rather than try to watch it when broadcast at weird times at the weekend, couldn't 5* show it during the night? It's hardly the case that there is compelling broadcasting 24 hours a day.

For those people who have access to 3e it is still being shown.

I am totally ticked off!!

I've always watched American Idol and was enjoying the current series (I actually prefer it to X Factor).

Really really hacked off that Channel 5 have just dropped it like that. Inconsiderate pigs!!

It's a shiit house channel anyway.

Sadly I seen this coming with channel 5's record. It didn't do that well on 5* last year with heavy promotion and this season they've just treated it with disdain.

The viewing figures have been down in the USA too. I can't see it lasting more than 2 more seasons unfortunately.

It's a trend across a lot of our channels cutting the American reality channels..guess we don't like watching American stuff or anything remotely 'niche'. Little Englander Syndrome.

I thought the talent pool this season was really poor though. Reminded of the guff they had on XFUSA. None of them anywhere near Candice's level.

I still wouldn't mind watching it though. Is there anywhere to stream it online hassle/virus free?

Not on Candice's vocal prowess level maybe not...but in terms of artistry and creativity we've had some of the most interesting AI contestants this series...Jessica, Jess and Majesty for instance have such unique beautiful tones and vocals! Alex, Caleb and CJ also have really unusual characteristics. Alex has an interesting tone, Caleb's version of Skyfall makes me think he's more than just classic generic rock, and CJ has the R&B/country thing going on. We've had some amazing performances this series.

I think that was the best 13 they've had in a LONG time. Not to mention they all look like they genuinely get along and all have quite funny personalities esp Malaya and Caleb.

You can watch the episodes on youtube if you know where to look in the search url.

Oh no! Cancelled?? I just came on here to see what was happening when I couldn't find AI anywhere on my weekend guide. How ridiculous!! I wonder why? This year's judging panel is great, they're entertaining and have a good chemistry, and that goes a long way to making the programme watchable, IMO.

GRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Bugger!!! I wondered what had happened. I love this show and have been watching it for years. This season has been brilliant as well, great judges and great singers.
