Well, whatever their excuse or 'sweeteners', a £30 a year increase is still way too steep. Everyone I know who has subscribed to Prime has now cancelled their automatic renewal as a result.
Certainly if you take advantage of Prime's ability to add other household members (and split the cost) to the shipping advantages then multiple people should be more than able to buy enough to make a saving Most people who seem to be cancelling it seem to be doing so just as a knee jerk reaction to a price rise rather than looking at if its worth it to them. Next day shipping is an amazing option for many items you would buy and even the less urgent ones you soon realise how great it is not having to wait when you order from other retailers |

^^ Agree I think people are forgetting the price rise is actually nothing to do with the Prime Streaming and all to do with Amazon loosing money on their Prime Delivery Service, they've added the streaming as a sweetner and a thank you for staying with the Prime Service.
Amazon would actually like less people to use their Prime Service, just order and pay for normal delivery. |

Amazon have great logistical scale - there's no way they were 'losing money' on free 'one day' shipping with Prime at £49. I say the volume of goods they were shifting is the was generating them more money.
It's not as if acquiring exclusive shows like Black Sails or producing original shows for their Prime Video service comes cheap too. All in all, yes, it's still a good deal for me, but only because I like the exclusive video content! |

All in all, yes, it's still a good deal for me, but only because I like the exclusive video content! And I'm not sure how much their exclusive content does cost them that much upfront. Its not like they are chasing exclusive content that's in demand, its content that traditional broadcasters aren't going after, the kind of thing that would otherwise end up hidden away on Universal, Five US when it was almost given away. And their original content can often end up being cheaper than buying rights in because they benefit from all additional revenue streams such as home media releases, international rights or when older seasons get released on other platforms as we have seen happen with Netflix Originals recently |

Does anyone else think the service and choice has deteriorated since the name re-brand. Titles which were in you reserved list used to appear a day before their release date with Lovefilm. Now you are lucky if they appear at all. Amazon sight licensing issues but the fact they would rather you purchased the discs from Amazon (especially Blu-ray 3D which they are regularly pulling at the last minute) seems more likely.
Lack of competition with Blockbuster, etc. doesn't help as well of course.

I've been an Amazon Prime member for a while and as I buy a lot of online stuff, it's worth it. I'm also a member of the old Lovefilm and have been very pleased with the rental of discs service.
Last week I bought a Sony blu ray / dvd player which has enabled my LG TV to become a Smart TV and I am happily streaming movies. With my Amazon Prime membership already in place, I don't have to pay extra. I created a watchlist and was shocked when I realised that a lot of my chosen titles aren't covered by my Prime membership - I would have to subscribe separately I guess, or rent each individual title. Yet these titles are available to rent under my Lovefilm disc rental package. As I can now play blurays, I guess it is worthwhile holding onto the discs package. I can't wait to watch Avatar and Gravity on 3D bluray! Which begs the question - is there really a marked difference in picture quality between dvds and blu ray? We already watch in High Definition and the picture appears excellent.. |

I order lots of stuff for myself & various members of my family so prime kinda pays for itself because I'm not being charged £££££ per item for next day delivery!
![]() (The streaming aspect is a bonus but from a personal perspective apart from Castle there's nowt worth watching! ... Netflix blows Amazon Instant Video away in that respect & the fact there's loads of devices STILL unsupported such as Roku etc etc) ![]() Luckily I can afford both Amazon Prime & Netflix BUT .... if I could only have 1 it would be Netflix without a shadow of a doubt!

Just a heads up for all of you still renting discs via the Lovefilm By Post option, Amazon have now removed the option of adding new discs to the rental list, meaning that you can rent the discs already on your list off them until your list is emptied. I notice they have set up a sales account for ex-rental discs, under the name of Lovefilm UK Limited, meaning that it usually directs you to this sales option instead. They're getting rid of the physical rental option sooner than I expected. Great shame.

Oh? Well I tried several times last night to do this and it wouldn't let me. Either it's tech diffs, a glitch on my phone or maybe they're phasing this in from customer to customer. I'll try it again when I get home and let you know the outcome.

Ok. Let us know how you get on. When I accessed the site this morning, it was from my PC (using Firefox 29.0.1) and not from a mobile device.

I am glad I gave up lovefilm when amazon integrated it into their website. I am surprised that they have not sent me any emails offering me streaming, not that I would take it up, their webpage is messy. i will stay with Netflix.
I may find another DVD rental company, there are a couple still around. |

![]() As for selling rental discs that's not unusual, all physical rental firms do it. Demand for discs is higher when a title is new so they need more of that title but overtime demand falls so having the same number of discs available is a waste of warehouse space so they will sell some of them off to make room for new titles. |

I was very happy customer of both Prime and Lovefim (joined when it was Tescos) for about 6 years.
Then Amazon started using Citysprint. It may just be a London thing but citysprint pretend to do next day delivery but do nothing of the sort. I easily spend enough to cover delivery savings but just couldn't continue when they use this cowboy delivery company. I I was just on the point of cancelling my Amazon Prime when the Amazon instant price hike came about. I've now cancelled both and moved over NOWTV. Couldn't be happier . |

Absolutely awful name. Should've kept it as Amazon LoveFilm or something.

Well not to bad so far, I emailed them asking when my first discs would be sent out, not only did I get a prompt reply, but they are sending me a 3rd disc out of goodwill which they didn't have to do, ofcause this could be to keep me as a customer after my trial runs out
