I can also log into the iPad app with my Amazon details. I've signed up to prime but I migrated my love film account to my Amazon log in details so I think that's why. Anyhow tomorrow we will see exactly what's happening.

I still can't log into Amazon/Lovefilm VOD on my PS3 using my Amazon login details. I get the following message:

Your Amazon email and password combination was not recognised. Please try again. If you subscribe to Lovefilm and you've not previously linked your Lovefilm and Amazon accounts you must sign in using your Lovefilm account.

I deactivated my Lovefilm account almost 2 years ago. Im confused as to why I can sing into the App on my iPhone, log in via the webpage with my Amazon details but not on the PS3

Anyone got any ideas?

Its a shame that Prime Video benefit isn't shared by your household users. I know Netflix's profiles implementation isn't perfect as you still have to share your username and password with everyone but sharing your Amazon login with those in your household is significantly more of an issue as doing so people can allow them to order on your credit card.

Would have been the perfect to have a step up on Netflix

Hmm .... I think a lot of people may be disappointed.
I have wanted to try LoveFilm for a while, even though I already have Netflix, as I had heard there is some content on there that's not available on Netflix. I have not previously been an Amazon Prime subscriber as I didn't want to give a big chunk of money to Amazon every year just to get fast delivery, especially when other companies seem able to do this for free.

But when I saw that for a few days I could sign up to the new Amazon Prime for £49 I thought I'd give it a go, reasoning it was good value for a year's LoveFilm, and the fast delivery of Amazon stuff would make a nice bonus.

Since it went live a few hours ago I have checked the list of films available on 'Prime Instant Video' as they have renamed it. It seems that you can only stream for free the titles with a 'Prime' banner across the corner, which is about a third maybe of the films listed. For the other films there is a 'rental charge'. OK there are a few quite recent films included - 'Tangled' for instance (which is on Netflix as well!) but I was surprised to see rental charges even on films going back to the 80s (eg Blade Runner, Little Mermaid, The Princess Bride - films that often pop up on TV anyway). Also with TV series there only seems to be one season at a time available on Prime video. Presumably, if they even had any other seasons, you would have to pay rental.

All this doesn't compare very favourably to Netflix, who for example, have all 8 seasons of 'Dexter' available, and don't charge extra for anything.

Can anyone who was previously a LoveFilm customer tell me if the selection was previously as limited as this? Or is what I am seeing a bare bones service especially for the new Amazon Prime customers? I have the feeling I might have been conned!

Certainly I will not be renewing next year at £79 it is just not worth it.

On looking again, there do seem to be more series of someTV programmes available than I first thought. Still seems quite limited, though.

It just looks the same as it did before on my iPad app. Everything has a prime banner on it.

So I just searched for the little mermaid. The details came up but I have no option to buy/rent it. There is a banner that says on your iPad you can watch prime instant videos or videos that you have rented or purchased. I'm thinking that maybe you need to rent or purchase via the website and then it would show up in the app?

Or maybe the app needs to be updated to allow this function.

They have some stuff not available at iTunes. Like the charmed series for example.

They lied to me in their email a couple of months ago, they told me that I would not have to link my lovefilm account to Amazon and they now forcing me to link it.
they also don't seem to be anyway to change my membership, just what I have got and that is it.

Easy to cancel now mind you, none of this to cancel you must phone us.

i had to link to even get in if I want to cancel, i suppose i could have made another amazon account, but not worth it just to cancel.

I've just been having a look via the Kindle app. Instant selection looks much the same as before and there's the addition of titles to rent or buy.

I signed up to Prime yesterday for £49 and will make a saving of £23 for the year for unlimited streaming plus 4 dvds a month. On top of that I'll get free deliveries and access to the Kindle lending library (not a fantastic selection to be honest). A brilliant deal so far as I'm concerned!

Just had a look through on the app on my samsung tv. Initially when I saw the prime banner I thought it meant you could only watch that title for free if you have Amazon prime and not just the streaming part. Selected Warm Bodies, a film which was part of lovefilm instant and was presented with free with prime or a selection of rental prices. However whn I selected play it did indeed say it was part of my prime instant membership. So who is the rental price aimed at? If you are not a prime instant subscriber you would not be on that site would you? Also there is 5.1 sound now. I see a few newer titles added such as One Direction film.

Just check my Lovefilm account and I get the same. Actually it's not a Lovefilm account so RIP Lovefilm.

I agree that £4 for unlimited, 2 at a time postal rentals plus £5.99 for steaming is a great deal and exactly the same as before. I too though don't see how they can retain the postal service at the cost. I take on average 8 BlueRays per month and they are charging me £4 for that including postage. I suspect they will shut this side of the business down by the end of the year, especially when I stop my streaming part.

I wonder how many people still use the DVD service. Maybe I'm old fashioned but with my big TV and powerful surround sound system I much prefer the quality of a god BluRay and don't want to buy all the films I watch.

I know it is day one but everything I wanted to watch, it was expected that I had to pay extra for!

It is also chaotic on the PS3 app. It is nothing like Netflix which has a much easier to use interface. I was annoyed by it as I had to keep moving through the pages and not just click on one icon to see other series.

The icons were smaller than Netflix and it was harder to see in bed.

I will see if it improves, otherwise, I won't bother renewing and I will most definitely be complaining.

Looks like they are offering just one price plan for dvd/blu ray rental of £6.99 for unlimited rentals with two discs at a time. Just went into my account to check so I take it I would now have to pay £5.99 for unlimited streaming plus £6.99 for rentals making a monthly total of £12.98. I am on a free trial of streaming. Just happened that this change has occurred in the middle of my free trial. Amazon Prime Instant looks worth sticking with for a while. I did not want to lock into the Amazon prime deal for one year as I want the freedom to cancel after a few months or so. This change will definately see the end of signing up for a rental plus streaming package if £12.98 is the only option from now on.

Does 5.1 sound work on your TV? When I saw 5.1 against some titles I got excited but was disapointed when I played the titles as they seemed to still be in Dolby 2.0.

I have a samsung sound bar so cannot actually get 5.1 sound so cannot answer your question. I did have 5.1 until I bought a new samsung tv a few weeks ago then decided to buy a soundbar.

Apparently you can have Lovefilm by Post only at £7.99 per month, 2 discs at a time unlimited.
Looking at my account now it is £4 for Post and £5.99 for Instant.
I've emailed Customer Services for help as I only want Lovefilm by Post.

I have Netflix plus a DNS account so I have a lot of streaming content available. I'm also an Amazon Prime subscriber and this extra service is an added bonus . I'll have 7 months to review the service as my renewal isn't until September, but I cannot see myself renewing Prime.

Currently paying approx £9 per month for Netflix plus DNS = £118 (Netflix part £72)

However... If in seven months time the overall content of Amazon Prime turns out to be similar or better than Netflix UK, for example Amazon Prime has The West Wing in HD but Netflix UK* doesn't, then £79 for both the streaming and next day delivery is pretty good.

The other factors to consider are the number of TV shows/movies in HD, the stability of the streams, and the user interface. Netflix is definitely ahead at this point.

We shall see.

How do I see what I have previously rented when looking for something new, before if I had rated it I had watched it, looks like I now need to constantly scroll through the previously rented screen

I only use the DVD option, I have quite slow BB and Amazon is the worst for buffering compared to other services I have tried

I have to use my iPad and Airplay to Apple Tv, I've read that there's no 5.1 option using this way, can anyone confirm that. Seems a bit crap if thats the case.

First thing I noticed is that there is no longer any link between your physical rental list and Instant.

Under the old system you could see which titles were available to stream just by looking at the little icons in your rental list. Now even clicking on a title from your rental list doesn't tell you if it's available on instant. No, it's over to the other page to search for each film separately. Also, it's a bit bloody rich to charge £79 a year up front and then expect you to pay another £2.50 on top to watch a film made 73 years ago.

The rental side of things is so stripped down, clunky and hidden that I'd have to agree they are looking to wind that side of things down which is a shame because some of us want more than just the bare bones of the film. No language or subtitle options, no extras no alternate versions; just "here's your film to half-watch on your tablet". Nothing against streaming but it's a little myopic to try and shift everything in that direction.

I suppose instant gratification is the name of the game these days though.

I'd be very unhappy if they stopped dvd rental by post.
No inclusive streaming service currently can match the range of physical titles.
Of course being forced to stream included titles and pay on top to rent instant titles would make them more money...
Not everyone can stream with poor broadband so I for one hope they don't stop physical rentals.

This change isn't affecting me too much, I was already a prime customer of several years and on the 3 discs unlimited with love film.

As others have said the range of Blu Rays is much better than on the streaming, the quality on my set up is better with Blu Ray. I also watch the discs on long journeys in the car and in other peoples houses. Hopefully the discs won't go anywhere for a while!

Its much easier to secure rights for digital rental and purchases than streaming though and exclusivity on titles for these is rare as the studios want to maximise profits (and securing exclusivity on these would be pretty expensive to make the studio willing to agree). Its why we see iTunes able to sell and rent titles that Sky, Netflix or Lovefilm had as streaming exclusives

If they did do this, this would leave only 1 company in the UK (that I know of) that still offers DVD's/ Blu Rays by post which is Cinema Paradiso. Maybe this little known company should advertise themselves a bit more as they could grab some Lovefilm customers?

OMG it is Awful , I use the streaming service only , whoever designed the layout needs to be shot , also had to faff about trying find information re the new set up , and there seems to be less content available to stream think I might cancel and stick to Netflix
