Pork pie, mushy peas and mint sauce. One of the nicest things you'll ever eat!

I had and made mushy peas a few times but don't like them that much.
I prefer marrowfat peas, which is what I used to make mushy peas when i'm in the mood for them, but prefer them regular and then that's only for a roast dinner. Overall I prefer garden peas and have made 'posh' mushy peas with them. |

I enjoy eating them, but the after effects are never pleasant, so I tend to avoid them these days.

Love mushy peas. Obviously they're great with fishcakes as well as fish and chips, but I also like them with roast pork and roast potatoes (great for the Monday after roast pork on Sunday) or grilled gammon steaks.
Like the poster above, I love them with white bread and butter and a splash of malt vinegar. |

Whenever I make a pan of mushy peas I can't wait for them to go cold so I can have my favourite ever food - cold mushy peas and mayonnaise sandwiches

Mushy peas and marrowfat peas go so well with bangers and mash/onion gravy or with Cod in Batter and chips...in theory they should be disgusting but for whatever reason work well with the above two.

curried marrowfat peas is great........just have to cook them enough that they don't start to 'mush' !
-it's all a matter of timing ............ ![]() Are we the only country that goes in for mushy/ marrowfat peas? Anybody have any preferences - frozen, soaked or tinned? I love them all but I do tend to use Lidl's tinned on a Friday after the gym , shopping & then food shopping. I just saw some frozen ones up the corner shop but had to resist as no room in freezer - I would have tried them if we weren't having stir fry. I bought garden peas instead.I think I might just take some Leo's peas to a Turkey with me next time I go - the MIL won't like them I just know. She/ they don't really eat potatoes! They can hardly sell what we would buy as fluffy pots for mashing!

I always use dried marrowfat peas...........never tinned, frozen or anything else
Soak in a bowl overnight with a teaspoon of bicarb rinse a couple of times the next day and simmer on a low heat you need to stop simmering before they start to break up and go mushy.........so keep testing you want them soft but still whole peas drain, put to one side make your curry..........I just have oil curries with no liquid.......so it's fried onion, garlic, chilli, any other veg, in oil with curry powder or paste of your choice (not curry sauce!).......then add peas and stir around a bit Curried peas ! |
