I think some people need to get on to the manufacturers of the products as I understand it the tech it uses is meant to be an accepted standard of freeview HD?

I think it should be the other way round. Trying to provide a service that clearly is incompatible with a majority of receivers. This service must clearly be doomed!

not really as they can only build to the set standards. Its up to whoever controls free view to ensure that anything badged as freeview HD meets the standards that are meant to be set.

Equally, the Connect TV service, to my understanding, works on a blacklist approach, where receivers that didn't handle Connect TV correctly were blacklisted.

Increasingly, the whilelist approach, where individual receivers are tested and approved beforehand offers a level of reassurance for consumers.

It is also noteworthy that the streamed channel services from Connect and Synapse TV are more likely to be compatible on TVs rather than PVRs - there are relatively few PVRs on the list compared to TVs, although I'm pleased to see that another TVOnics PVR has entered the VuTV whitelist of devices.

Re: YouView:
It is my understanding that Arqiva would have liked Connect TV to be on YouView. However, with BT and TalkTalk it's two against one. This stance and other issues that have occurred really underlines the recent thinking that the Freeview shareholders should reduce or withdraw their stake in YouView, as it can't be seen as an open platform, and concentrate on their own connected Freeview solution by bringing in a standard for catch-up TV services and streamed channels that work on modern Smart TVs.

But they can only build to what they know the standards say should exist. The problem here is many of the boxes seem to carry the label for Free view HD but dont seem to meet the standards they are meant to.

Its like mobile phones - app developers can only code to the spec they are told exists. When the providers adapt the code for custom reasons this is usually where things start going wrong.

Its silly how you basically now have a battle between YouView and Freeview - hardly helps the platform.

My tvionics HD 500 dtr picks this up, watchable on 50" LCD screen too, little bit of pixelation sometimes though. My BB connection is 18mb

I think Motors TV really should compile a list on their site of what works. This way their interested target audience knows what to buy.

I wonder how many actual sets actually work and the initial performance of the channel after this weekend.

Just watching the live racing and its not too bad quality on the whole. It's just the smaller moving graphics like the positions that seem distorted.

I wonder what speed its streaming at?

I was disappointed to read that only LG tv models from 2013 on were supported, but tried my 2012 LS575T and it works without a hitch

Do you have to add the channel or does it just appear?

I had to do a full scan to find it on mine the other day. Surprised it didn't auto appear like most.

I wonder if all these issues with comparability are some of the reasons holding back more channels launching this way ..if the costs are reasonable of course?

On both my TVonics PVR and LG TV the channel appeared automatically, without any need to do a manual rescan.

Bought my LG tv 50PA650T (not smart tv) late 2012 and it works on motors but not vision2 ch230 nor Vutv ch238. Interested to hear where you read that.

Had to do a scan on mine for it to appear in the epg which also surprised me. Pity there is no prog info on the epg.

The statement "LG models: 2013 models onwards" is actually on Connect TV's own official list of supported devices.

I wonder if it was to become really popular if this method of broadcasting could overload their servers?

With it not being multicast a lot of viewers connected at the same time could put some serious strain on the servers ..unless they have some decent kit behind it all.

Could I have the link for that as I couldn't find it. I notice there is some later software for my tv on the LG website. It doesn't say what the changes are but as I'm not fussed with the ones I can't connect to it's not an issue. Just for completeness none of the red button streams that you list on your website work on it , but QVC does make an attempt to do something without any success.

Edit: Ah yes found it. It is a bit vague wrt to LG models.

Presumably it is Arqiva who are doing the actual broadcasting over the internet, off the satellite feed - you would hope they enough infrastructure given their size.

That's what I thought but then again will they have that much spare capacity if say they had a sudden surge, like is it NASCAR tonight?

Not sure if demand is higher tonight but got the message saying "restarting stream" when watching a few times tonight.

That's the first blip I've had with it.

Watched the V8s and the Bathurst highlights (so until half 7) and it was flawless - I'm on 7meg ADSL. Picture quality was at least as good as a commercial channel, if not a normal SD one.

Yes I'm the same BB speed as you. Picture quality isn't bad at all - think they have done a good job with this one. Only problem they have is people want to watch it yet don't have the kit to do so ...must be a first for a freeview IP service.

Im assuming that a Vestel T7650 is actually older than a Vestel T8300? If so interesing that the older version works and the newer one doesn't.

No other way round. The T7650 is a recent HD PVR (sold under Bush and Logik brand names), the T8300 was one of the first Freeview HD boxes released in the UK under about a dozen different brand names

http://gonedigital.net/2010/06/25/wh...reeviewhd-box/

Did not expect it to work (suspect low memory is the issue), just as I had access to one thought I would try it.
