I think an xmas launch, catch people when they are more willing to spend, grab as bigger user base as possible in as little time as possible, then let nature take its course.
Strike hard and fast in the cold of winter when people want indoor entertainment more and not planning and saving for summer get aways. Just my pennies worth. |

Ace Combat 7.
I know you've already got EVE Valkyrie and War Thunder there, but I think this could be epic. And Sony are now saying GameStop CEO was just "speculating". But still haven't said anything to clarify a launch window. Quote:
I'm surprised 'Kitchen' isn't on that list.
Oh and the 100ft mini golf game does look cool too. |

I think they will launch limited stock earlier, be out of stock everywhere (like the PS4 was), then release with huge stock just before xmas when demand is even higher maybe at an inflated price.

According to a recent pole quite a lot of developers aren't interested in VR, think the figure was 66% or so. And only about 22% are actually developing for VR.
Not too surprising. The tech is new, untested in the mass market, expensive to buy and expensive to develop for. I think the "aren't interested" is purely from a financial and business perspective; I can't understand why any developer would say they're not interested in the technology itself, which could change the landscape of gaming as we know it.

I take it you're not a businessman? You don't launch a product at a lower price and then hike the price up. The consumer will slaughter you for that. The PS4 VR will almost certainly launch at a price that will only appeal to the hardcore gamer, as it's likely to cost as much as the console itself. The idea of them putting that price even higher is ludicrous.

Sorry I just don't see it as changing the landscape for ever. It's not new, it was in the arcades 25 years ago or so, it's like 3d gaming, it's a fad thing that again hasn't taken off. It will be mildly entertaining for a while. It's not a very social thing, can't see many people gathered around the console while one guy/girl plays, your going to loose the social interaction.
I can't see my wife being amused with me, if I sat there with it on my head, totally ignoring her, as I can't see her (might be a good thing). |

You're right, it's not new, we did see this 25 years ago, but not like this. Technology has finally caught up so this idea that didn't work 25 years ago will work now. And I get that you don't believe in this, but as has been said many many times before, You need to try this before you write it off. Honestly, this is so immersive, it will change your view on VR completely. VR isn't something that can be easily conveyed in a video or an article, it's very much a see it to believe it thing. |

My main fear is that we will see a slew of crap games made for VR, much like we had when they tried to 3d make main stream back in the 80's and all we had was "B" movies with lots of out of screen finger pointing and objects coming at us.
I'm obviously not the target audience for VR as I don't play those sort of games that would benefit from VR. |

There are a number of games that cater for social gaming. PlayStation VR can display different viewpoints simultaneously on the TV and Headset with local 5 player games possible. Stop Talking And Nobody Explodes' Monster Escape and Cat 'n' Mouse are examples of this. Even in single player games, the TV shows what you can see in the headset, so no different to what happens now really. With VR it's also possible to play without using the TV at all, so if the Wife's really not interested at least you can play and leave her to watch the soaps in peace. Quote:

Sony apparently have a patent for a computer controlled interactive chair that would work with PSVR.

I would say to anyone with second thoughts about VR to even give Google Cardboard a go. It's £15 for the most up-to-date headset that will work with virtually any smartphone.
The quality from that experience is nothing compared to the professional headsets like OR, PSVR etc. Yet it is a million miles more sophisticated than the arcade VR of yesteryears or the likes of the Nintendo Virtual Boy; and it's immersive enough to have truly given me the heebie-jeebies playing several of the horror games and videos. I can't begin to imagine how much better PSVR will be than it. |

Very basic compared to what the dedicated VR systems can do, but a great introduction to the medium all the same. |

Oops. To make matters worse, I've got an early version of that at home and haven't got around to checking it out yet.
😳 Actually I might give Google cardboard or something like it a whirl to tide me over til PSVR hits it's been two years since I tried the OR.

I can absolutely second this sentiment. I got a Google Cardboard a while ago, and just replaced it with a plastic version.....

The cardboard V2 uses a touch capacitive sensor which is much better and works with any smartphone

Adr1ft is been released on PC and Rift on March 28th, so should be a launch title on PSVR.

Latest trailer for the game. If the 3D can properly convey the sense of depth, this could be a stunning experience.

Sony are holding a PlayStation VR press event on Tuesday March 15th, 10pm UK time. Looks like we'll finally get the launch details.

Here's to hoping for a reasonable price as well as some great games for it. That's all I need, not really bothered about whether it comes out in April or Autumn or whenever - just as long as it isn't wallet-breaking, I'll buy one.

I'm hoping for an early release, just so I can get my hands on it as quick as I can
![]() I'm also hoping for €400 for the headset, but don't really care as the missus is getting it for me. And I know the games will be relatively sparse at launch but I have my "to play" list made so I will eagerly await them too. |

Thankfully it will put an end to all the rumoured prices, the latest being a Czech website having it priced at approx £350, which is doable for me

When I first read that I thought you said it is double for you. You thought it would cost £175
But then I woke up and read it right.£350 would be just fine ![]() my fault for being lazy and not using a hyphen I'm assuming Shopto will have a finance option so I may take that route if it costs more than expected. Im looking for some Move controllers now, all the ones in my local Game have gone (£6 last I heard) |

Hopefully this briefing won't just be a case of "we're launching in Autumn, see you at E3" |
