Reading in Play magazine that it is connected to the PS4 and TV via a lead and a box - i kind of always thought it would be wireless so am a little disappointed with this, especially as you can guarantee that the lead will not be long enough - I sit about 15 feet away from my TV so that is going to be a real issue for me.
Wireless was a consideration for Sony, but it wasn't possible to do at this time.

As I understand it, the headset is connected to the breakout box by a 3m proprietary cable.

However, the box connects to the PS4 / TV using standard HDMI and USB leads, so getting longer cables if you need to bring the box closer to you shouldn't be much of an issue.

Or, buy a stool.

A wireless headset would have been awesome, and we might even get one in a few years, but we'll have to do with the wired one for now. VR is still in its infancy !

There are a number of issues that would prevent wireless for the moment.

1 - cost
2 - lag
3 - weight
4 - battery life
5 - safety (if battery worn on head)

I can't see that happening for quite a few years

^^ On the topic of safety, I wonder if having a lead connected to you, and not been able to see would cause any incidents.

It's actually in Sony's "best practice" VR guidelines that games should not encourage players to spin on the spot to avoid entanglement

shouldn't be too bad then i suppose, just have to have the box in the middle of the floor

still very excited about this, although i would prefer to see more racing games/ space shooters being announced rather than things like job simulators.

one thing i haven't read anything about is watching movies on it - will i be able to stream video and watch films via the headset? i imagine if that is possible it would be like having huge screen right in front of your eyes.

I've played space shooter EVE Valkyrie on PSVR and loved it. Driveclub VR is, by all accounts, very impressive indeed. Project CARS and Tracmania Turbo on the way too. .

PlayStation Europe have added a VR section to their official forums. They're gearing up for launch!

i think you can be more dead - our bodies are mainly composed of living cells but such as hair and the outer layers of skin are actually dead cells that do not do any form of metabolising, therefore we are mainly alive but effectively partially dead. As more cells die you become 'deader' - in the forum context that would mean some threads are never updated so are effectively dead, and as the proportion of dead to live threads increases then the forums themselves become 'more dead'

Virtual reality may not be a new concept, but previous incarnations were terrible. This year we are going to see a major surge in demand for VR as they're actually very good now and at the level where people can actually enjoy themselves. The technology is officially here to immerse people properly. Therefore, I think a £300 - £500 price tag for Playstation VR is fair, as long as the games are there for it. It will over the years become more affordable, but at the moment VR is cutting edge technology.

I broadly agree, but much like Blu-Ray, it will be several years before it becomes properly mass market.

This is because there are cheaper alternatives available, which while they are not up to the same sort of standard, are more than good enough to give a VR experience. I'm thinking the likes of Google Cardboard and Gear VR will massively outsell any of the £300+ incarnations.

I agree mate. I'm buying gear VR as it's only £80 - it's great if you already have the phone. It's going to do wonders to introduce VR to mass markets along with Google cardboard, but we can't pretend it will be any good for real gaming experience. It will be great for experiencing things, walking around places etc, but PS VR will be a more affordable alternative to real gaming if people can't afford the super computer needed for the Oculus and the Vive.

Like all gamers and tech lovers I'll certainly demo this when available in store. Being a casual however, it's not for me right now. Price? I think Sony will hit very competitively, similar to the 4's dramatic launch price announcement. I'll be very surprised if this is beyond 300 GBP.

I'll be surprised if it isn't. There's a lot of tech packed into this.

Disappointing, yes, but perhaps understandable. GDS is not a public event, and the crowd will be invited journalists only. Assuming they do announce the price and release date there won't be the whoops and hollers that a crowd of fanboys would provide. The whole thing could feel a little flat compared to the rapturous reception PS4 got at E3.

We'll have all the info we need by 11pm tomorrow. Fingers crossed for good news.

Awww I assumed it was going to be streamed. I was looking forward to a PSVR coming out session.

That is disappointing.

Anyway, I predict a June 21st release date with a price of £350.

Quick update regarding tonight's press event. Clocks went forward in San Fransisco on Sunday, so the UK time for the event is now 9pm.

A trailer for Star Wars: Trials on Tatoine has leaked.

http://youtu.be/yd8giIbPtxA

It looks to use the Vive, but this would be very cool if it came to PSVR. People are eating up Star Wars stuff these days and would be a good draw for people on the fence about VR.
