Pre-ordered this last night from Shopto and can't wait for next Thursday now.

I got the Samsung VR not too long ago and I feel like that is a good taste of what is possible without being totally satisfying despite having a lot of fun with it. Mainly due to finding the headset a bit too uncomfortable to use over long periods and the resolution being a bit poor.

I feel like PS VR will sort both these problems out. It looks really comfortable from the videos I've seen. This just feels like the next step in gaming and provide experiences we've just never had before in games.

Really hope youre right but I'm sceptical. Maybe it's because I was stung by the Kinect on the XBox... that just wasnt supported by much apart from the odd party game and died a death.

I count more than 180 announced PSVR games on the way, which is already more than Kinect ever had. Throw in all the "entertainment" options that are coming they'll be plenty of stuff to keep us going.

Im kinda hoping you can somehow watch events in VR. Imagine being able to watch a concert or something in VR?

Thumper seems to be a standout title, it's already got a couple of 9's

Seen a 9 for SUPERHYPERCUBE as well.

I'm a bit meh about Super Hyper Cube. It's just Tetris. And as much as I liked and appreciate the game, I find it hard to get excited by it.

And I just bought Drive club VR. My first VR game. It's so close now but Sony really need to update the PS Store with VR games.

Sum up of his thoughts:

- Even though he's not convinced of Virtual Reality as the NEXT BIG THING, he admits that Playstation VR has done more to convince him of VR than either Oculus or the HTC Vive.

- Sony is "cheeky" to sell the PSVR *without* the 2 Move controllers and Playstation Camera, when those are essential to the experience (Yes you can buy Move controllers on the cheap, but their batteries may be flatter than they should be).

- Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, is in his opinion, THE game to sell people on Virtual Reality out of all titles currently available, and he recommends that everyone who picks up a PSVR, pick up that game, as it does a lot more for the player than "Simply being a glorified tech demo".

- The VR headset *can* steam up, causing the screen inside the headset and his glasses to occasionally steam up during gameplay, possibly caused by the rubber of the headset.

- He could see himself using this much more than the Vive (which he supposedly hasn't touched since launch week because it makes him feel nauseous and demands too much space), BUT admits that Sony *has* to go above and beyond to support this thing, and not drop it much like it did the Playstation Mobile, the PSP Go, the Playstation Vita or even Playstation Move itself pre-PSVR.

All in all, his impressions actually seemed VERY positive coming from a "VR sceptic", think Sony may have something worth being proud of on their hands.

Sum up:
- DON'T play with the PSVR for hours at a time like you may do with standard games, or you'll be left feeling like you've got the hangover from hell.

- The tech is VERY cool and feels much more "here to stay" than past 'fads' such as Kinect and 3D gaming.

- Don't play Scavenger's Odyssey on Playstation VR Worlds if it's your first time with VR, as that is currently the most nausea-inducing title available. Conversely, Dangerball on Playstation VR Worlds is one of the most fun titles available.

- Dave from Videogamer admits that once the initial novelty factor has worn off and you take a step back and really look at the launch release titles, they're much less impressive than you'd have first thought.

- Many launch titles are more like "90 minute experiences", or "vertical slices", rather than full games, and as such, many of the titles feel vastly over-priced, and this brings in to question the value of the PSVR and whether or not it will really have the killer software to back it or whether it will just have "Bonus Short Experiences for titles such as Batman, Battlefront and Final Fantasy" as well as many glorified tech demos.

- The headset is the comfiest out of the PSVR, Vive and Oculus Rift, and the weight of the hardware is only noticeable specifically when looking up.

- Backs up what Jim Sterling said, in that it's totally ludicrous that the PSVR is being sold without the Playstation Camera, notes that whilst the Move controllers aren't actually needed, they go far to enhance the gameplay experience of certain titles like Batman VR.

- Requires much less room to function properly than either the Oculus or the Vive, Dave was able to play for hours on end at his work desk pretty much right next to the Playstation Camera.

All in all, very good hardware, but the software currently hasn't proven itself and that's a cause for concern.

Glad to see reviewers aren't giving Sony a free ride in regards to the ridiculous decision not to do a bundled package with PS Camera and Move.

It seems most places are reccomending move controllers. Thats another £30+ per controller and it seems you may need two!

This is the biggest disappointment for me.

I think Sony did the right thing in the US where they've sold PSVR with and without the extra bits and pieces. It gives consumers choice. I, for example, already have the camera and Moves, and would want to be in a position where I'm forced to buy them again.

However, Sony's decision to only sell PSVR on its own everywhere else is questionable. I can see there being a lot of pissed off people on Christmas morning unable to play with their new gizmo because Mum & Dad didn't know about the required add-ons. Hopefully retailers / packaging gets the message across to uninformed buyers properly.

The vast majority of games can be played without PS Move. That being said, having them will enhance a significant number of titles. You really do need them for the full experience.

On the bright side, at least it's not the £190 you need for a pair of Oculus Touch motion controllers.

I bought mine for €4 each from CEX earlier in the year. Delighted I did that.

GameStop Ireland are selling the two Move controllers for €80. Ppfftttt.

According to Jim Sterling, this is because the Move controllers you got were likely part of the "original run" back when they released in 2010 (?), and because the Playstation Move controllers run on lithium batteries, that mean Move controllers from 6 years ago can be prone to not charging as well as they should, or even just flat out not charging at all.

Where as the ones that Gamestop and other outlets are charging 80 euro for were produced recently and as such charge just fine and don't have any issues at all.

That said, I'd still take a punt on older controllers if it meant not having to shell out 80 euro. Fortunately I'm one of the folks who got the Playstation Camera bundled with my PS4 so I'm good on that front.

Oh ya, they were worth the few euro I spent on them, even if the battery life isn't brilliant on them. And I have the camera sin e launch too.

There's actually a lot of games on launch day that I'm unsure what to go for and what to leave til later.

I'm thinking maybe Rigs and Eve Valkyrie (and Driveclub which I preordered earlier).

Decisions, decisions. Has anyone else 100℅ decided on what theyre getting ?

The gist I'm getting is that it doesn't really matter but you'll have to readjust every time you go from sitting to standing.

It seems you need to recalibrate your position every time you switch on the headset

Something I find potentially worrying from all the reviews, opinions & other media i've seen so far is how it's working fine for some people while others are having all sorts of problems with it.

I was watching the Giant Bomb stream last night & they had a lot of problems with the tracking & things in the game moving while they were sitting still. On the other side however I watched Jim Sterling's review & gameplay as he hooked everything up & experienced none of the issues which Giant Bomb did.

If the consumer experience is like that where it works perfectly for some while others have all manor of issues that's obviously not going to be good so it's something Sony need to try & figure out the cause of & either put out a fix or some user recommendations to try & make the issues less.


Also something that is kind of annoying me is that the games media sites are reviewing many of these VR experiences as if they were full games & then scoring them lower because there short or don't have any deep story or gameplay & I don't feel that is fair. You need to review them for what they are & to be quite honest I don't think its fair to even score many of them.

Take the Batman thing, It's a short VR experience that isn't meant to be story or gameplay heavy. You get to jump in & 'be' Batman & be in that world for a while. It was never meant to be about story or gameplay so I feel that going into it & reviewing that as a game & then scoring it 5-6/10 because you don't do much & there isn't some deep story doesn't seem fair to me.

Review them for what they are & not what there not.

re the Giant Bomb stream.

There were a few things which may have caused their problems

1 - The green screen and studio lighting. Did that confuse the camera? I realise they did try with the lights off too but maybe it caused problems with calibration
2 - When they calibrated the Move controllers they stood up from their seat, calibrated and sat back down. So they hadn't calibrated them at the same distance or height that they were playing from
3 - The seated position was way further away than recommended. The "sweet spot" is supposed to be around 5-6ft with 9ft being the maximum recommended distance. It looked to me like they were sitting way further back than that
4 - They were in a studio which may well have had lots of electromagnetic interference. Did that interfere with the bluetooth controllers?

I know they said they also had problems at home but if they made obvious calibration mistakes in the studio it seems likely they may have made the same mistakes at home.
