Well, that was an expensive mistake!

Not impressed at all for the following reasons...

The resolution in games is far too low making everything look blurred - it is bad enough playing games but watching movies through the media-player is like watching an old VCD rip, complete with artefacting!

The headset doesn't feel comfortable, i either have ti loose or there is pressure around the eyes.

The image constantly drifts to the left - even when watching a movie and not moving my head at all i find that i need to hold the 'option' key to reposition the screen to be in front of me every minute or so.

Oh well, i was sooooo looking forward to this and couldn't be more disappointed! Now all i need to do is find the best way to recuperate my money, although as i bout Drive Club and Eve digitally that is £60 down the drain i will never see again!

Will the PS4 Pro make any significant differences to games like Driveclub VR in terms of graphics & resolution in other games or is the power just not there?
Not DC sadly, which is a shame because it's probably the game that would benefit most.

Rez, Thumper, Futuridium, Hustle Kings, PSVR Worlds, Farpoint are all confirmed to be getting the Pro treatment.

Simply adding AA or boosting resolution would clean up a lot of VR games nicely.

I'll be interested in seeing how people getting a Pro find VR after using on OG PS4 for a month, if they notice a big improvement. I may get one earlier than anticipated by taking advantage of the second hand market with people selling them as they don't work for them.

Looking forward to trying it tomorrow night.

As well as the issues I have noted above I find it pretty silly that you have to sit so close to the camera, my living room is not large but as I lean back on the sofa I am 11 feet away from the camera and the vr doesn't work.

The only solution I have at the moment is to get a chair from the dining room and sit in the middle of the room to play!

I have tried removing the hdmi from the tv and everything still works so I may try just moving the PS4 into a spare room and just having a vr setup in there where at least I can put a chair close enough to the camera without having to arrange the furniture every time.

One good thing I have found is playing normal PS4 games on the virtual big screen, Devil May Cry looked great, and playing a Score Rush Extended was much better with the action filling my field of view.

As I have said above, I am very disappointed with the overall setup and performance, with the very worst part being how poor movies look, I was hoping for a cinema experience and instead I got SD quality when I wanted HD.

A note on the blurry image front... I saw one guy on Reddit say that he couldn't figure out why he was constantly getting a blurry picture only to realise that he hadn't taken the plastic film off the lenses. Mine didn't have any plastic on though so I don't know whether this is a common thing.

So my first impressions of PSVR:

- Assembling all the cables was pretty straightforward thanks to the instructions but I was a bit confused when it came to setting up the camera. Wasn't entirely sure how far away it wanted me and when I got my head in a good place, it seemed like there was no way the camera was going to pick up my controller. Setup was easier when I tried it standing.
- The headset is nice and comfortable. Compared to the Gear VR it's like putting your head in pillows.
- I'm glad I picked up the Move controllers because actually getting to use my hands in The Heist was freaking amazing! Was blown away that I could pick up objects. Also had to stop myself from trying to lean on the table in the opening scene! When using the gun I soon figured out that I was too close to the camera as my hands kept going out of the play area. Moving further away helped this.
- Ocean Descent had me feeling pretty nervous. And found myself flinching away at some points. Great graphics and ambience in this one.
- Tried Scavengers Odyssey but started feeling a bit queasy after a few minutes so decided to call it a night. Probably not a coincidence that it was the first VR game I've tried that allows you to move freely.
- Resolution is similar to my Gear VR but the screen door effect is much less. No, you won't be too happy watching movies on this thing. But we're probably at least a year away from HD VR.
- Would have liked to have tried some of the demos tonight but of course, you have to wait for the update file to download. Shame they didn't let us download stuff yesterday.
- Still too chicken to try anything horror on this. Might get brave enough eventually.

All in all, 8/10 on first impressions

Tried a couple more bits

Alluminate - that was a load of bollox. Deleted it right away.

Little star Cinema - nice idea, not much on there but could be much better in time. Those lions are amazing.

PS Worlds demo : Ocean Decent - now this is amazing. Just amazing. So pretty, so immersive.

The Playroom : Cat and Mouse - a cute 2-5 player game where the person with the headset is the cat and has to catch the mice - thats the people with the controller's. The voice changer is so funny, I nearly wet myself.

I wish I had lense protectors. It seems my glasses have already scratched the lenses.

Not sure why you couldn't download any demos until today. I had it all downloaded and installed ready to go on Wednesday.

We had a fun evening as a family playing last night. Im not sure why people are complaining. Its virtual reality and its good.
Im impressed by the graphics the way everyone was talking i thought theyd look like the wii. I dont care if i have to sit in the middle of the floor i cant see myself.
Probably the best £400 ive spent.

i don't think they are as good as the wii to be honest - the edges are particularly out of focus and it is far too blurred overall. The constant 'drifting' of the image is appalling, if i watch something on the media player i can press the options button to centre the image again and see a marked change after only 10 seconds or so.

I will have another go at calibration today but am not holding out much hope to be honest

I dont get any blurring or drift. Maybe im just more tolerant of faults. Thats not a criticism to you.
Graphics arent important to me. Its the gameplay. You can have the best game and forgive bad graphics. But some games you are blown away by graphics and really the gamevis a bit meh.
I think if you are actually saying out loud to yourself "thus is amazing" its got to be goid. I played the heust and i couldnt lusten to the gangster guy i was too busy trying to light my cigar. Amazing.

I thought 'The Kitchen' demo was excellent - very immersive and made me feel very uncomfortable, so that is the sort of experience i was after. I had another go this morning and am beginning to think that part of the issue is that i wear glasses and i don't think the headset is designed for them, my glasses actually touch the lenses when it is at its best focus! Perhaps that is something that can be rectified by myself but at the moment it doesn't seem to be good design.

As for the virtual screen \moving' - after only tens of seconds i find i am starting to look over my left shoulder and i have to recenter the image using the option button, this is very very annoying as after a race in DriveClub I am looking to the left just to see the main screen - perhaps this is a hardware/software problem - i have tried with the room dark and light, sitting closer or further away, nothing seems to help.

Looks like i am not the only one with the decentering issue...

Despite the low resolutions i am finding playing games such as DariusBurst very good on the huge vr screen so at least that is a positive!

What stuff do we need to download? Just the demo disc or or there system etc updates?

I tried to play the physical demo disc that is included in the bundle but it wanted to install an update and it wouldn't work when I tried to launch it anyway. There's also a bigger demo disc that you can install from the PS Store (like 30gb).

There is also a system update for the VR but that downloaded pretty quick.

I'm absolutely loving this however I am getting motion sickness while playing Rigs which is really disappointing as that's the game I want to play the most.

Is Kitchen a demo? Is it available for the UK?

Off to Kings Cross after work to try out VR for the first time.
Despite the numerous positive reviews, the odd negative review has put me off shelling out over £400 for all the VR equipment.
Playing it for a bit this evening might make up my mind.

Based on what I have seen of it so far, Eve Valkyrie and Battlezone are the games I'm hoping to play.

For anyone having trouble with blurring etc, have you tried changing the eye to eye distance? It's meant to make a big difference. I don't know if it's done in the initial set up but if you go to your PS4s settings, then devices and you'll see various VR settings

I have down all the setup as described but a problem for me is I wear glasses and I cannot get the visor close enough to be crystal clear...

if I put contact lenses in then I can move it closer but still have problems even though it feels my eyelashes are touching the screen - the image is clear in the center but the edges are blurred.

You tried pressing the visor button and pulling it out slightly?

I have no issue with my glasses so far

That's how it should be though? Not sure what you're seeing exactly but whatever you're not looking at will be blurred slightly.

anyone else here getting the issue of 'decentralisation' where the image seems to drift over to the left so you end up looking over your left shoulder in real life in order to keep the virtual image central?

This has been widely reported elsewhere but just seeing if anyone else has it?

Someone else said the same thing further back in the thread.

EDIT: Opps that was your older post.

Not getting the drift thing myself. I quite like the device, I hope they support it. Why does VR worlds manage to look reasonably detailed compared to DC VR? I have high hopes for Ace Wombat 7.

That's a good point about DC VR. I'm not at home at the moment but I was thinking of trying standard DC in cinema mode to see if that is as bad.
