Wow.

Oculus Rift is launching at $599.

£499 in UK.

Hopefully PSVR is significantly under that.
Ouch. Add to the the money (most) people will have to pay to upgrade their PCs and its going to be an expensive bit of kit.

Oooofftt that's expensive.

That's probably about €600 for me. I would have liked these things to come in at €400 or under.

Common Sony, do us proud and be reasonable with the price !!!

The fcuk ?

IGN reckons it'll launch in the euro zone for €700. That's waaaaay too much for this.

And who the fcuk currency converts these things. I understand by now that we always get shafted, but that's ridiculous.

Blah blah exchange rate blah blah sales tax blah blah customs duty blah blah.... Same old story.

Meanwhile, Oculus Rift + PC bundles START at $1499

That's a BIG entry fee for anyone starting from scratch.

Worse case scenario, combined cost for a PS4 + PSVR at £800 starts to look like good value* :-/

(*relatively speaking)

Actually it is that the dollar price doesn't include tax. Throw say 20% onto $600 and it's over $700.

Ok, I suppose it's not actually too bad of a price. People have no problem throwing under a thousand at an iPhone or Samsung. A bloody smart watch costs hundreds too.

This is brand new tech, and I seen a tweet that said something along the lines of "VR is start out been something everyone wants, not something that everyone can afford". That makes sense I guess.

I know that yourself and myself have thrown this kind of money at projectors. I just wanted this to be reasonably priced so there would be a lot of takeup and the product would become popular, and not another Vita.

I expect PSVR to be cheaper tho. Maybe £400 / €500.

Yeah. I've no problem spending money on something I really want, but I'm not prepared to waste it on something nobody else will buy resulting in it becoming just another dust gathering peripheral.

But I am hopeful that PSVR will be significantly cheaper.

Like PS4 it will have been built with a price in mind from day one. What was said back in the early days? Something like "..... as soon as we can for as cheap as we can....."

I feel Oculus Rift have created their technology and then settled on a price, with a decent mark-up, afterwards.

The thing muddying the water for PSVR is the additional bits of kit required that some of us already own (camera/Move)

Hopefully they will be sensible and come in at £300/$350/€350 - at least for a standalone SKU.

i think that vr will be such a game-changer in terms of 'immersion' within games that i don't really care how much it costs as long as it actually works! I would be happy with it costing £1000 as long as i actually feel i am 'in the game'.

Oculus is a no-no for me because i don't want all the hassle that goes with pc gaming - making sure i have the right set-up and software etc - so it really is Sony VR or nothing for me..

I see the appeal in VR & think its cool & all but for me personally its just not how I want to play games or watch TV etc... so regardless of price i'm just not interested in buying it.

Its was the same with things like 3D before, I tried it a few times & thought it was cool & could see why others liked it but it was never the way I wanted to Play/watch things so ultimately it was never a technology I ever considered investing in.

Coming back to PSVR I'm going to guess that in the next 2 months Sony will announce an event/conference (I'd say held in April/May) dedicated to PSVR where they will announce price, release date & the full launch line-up. I'm also guessing that the price will be £250-300 & be released in June with No Mans Sky as the big launch game thats bundled with it.

I think they will do this at a special event rather than at something E3 because I don't think those sorts of events are really the right place to announce it & that doing a special event (Along the lines the PS4 announcement event) gives them the platform to focus just on VR & to do the event in a way that shows off VR far better than just throwing it into the middle of an e3 conference where there trying to balance it against all the other non-VR stuff & therefore only have a short space of time to discuss it properly.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say they won't use E3 for the announcement. They need to hold an event solely focuses on VR, telling us the price, release date and going in depth into everything VR like the new controllers and all the hardware and software in general.

I think we'll get that sooner rather than later, Like in the next 4-6 weeks. And then maybe use E3 to ramp up a bit of hype by giving it 15 minutes.

(I'm just guessing all of this)

My hope is we will be looking at £300 for PS VR making the total price under £600 for both and it wont surprise me if Sony do a pack for around £500 - £550.

I might get an oculus when its cheaper and on the 3rd gen but doubtfully before that.

Sony have dismissed it saying Amazon made an error.

Sony have dismissed it saying Amazon made an error.
But not a complete non story. From Forbes

Sony has gotten back to me with a comment – “This was an error by Amazon, we haven’t announced price for PlayStation VR.” They also reiterate that PS VR is still scheduled to be released in the first half of 2016. Since publishing, the Canadian listing page has been revised to not show the price or release date.
Im quite happy that

PS VR is still scheduled to be released in the first half of 2016
That is at least good news

Some of these prices that are getting banded around are scary. £150 is top mark for me, I got stung with 3D TV and on a slightly different note the Vita. No more big bucks on fancy tech for me.

That's to much for an occasional use add-on, for me anyway. Will be watching closely though to see how all this VR stuff pans out, I'm not totally against the idea, just sceptical about it taking off in any meaningful way.

Brand new tech costs peoples. I'd be surprised if the first gen of VR devices were under £400.

UK retailers seem to be backing PSVR, saying it is "in the strongest position, as it has the momentum of the PS4 and a promising line-up."

Yeah, I read a thing from some GameStop dude who said he didn't want to get into a war between them but PSVR would be the front runner, or something. All positive publicity can only be a good thing.

I would say placeholder.

"First half of 2016" - 30th June.
"Priced as a new platform" - £350 = PS4 launch price.

Educated guesses basically.

Thankfully the $=£ thing died out some time ago.

A $400 price tag should equate €400 and £350. We still get stung, of course, but not as badly as we once did.
