Thanks for the response, EC. I am getting used to the Samsung speak but, being from a technical background, I find some of the terms that are used unhelpful. For example, when I was watching F1 last year I noticed a strobe effect following the cars. It resembled a heat haze just behind the trailing edges. I thought that this would be a great opportunity to try a faster refresh rate and set to looking at the menu options. I chose picture options, motion plus only to see terms like "clear", "standard", "smooth", "custom" and "demo". This was very frustrating as I did not know what each meant. I would have preferred to see the parameters that they related to, such as refresh rate etc. for each term. From that I could determine which to select, if any.
Aslo, when I selected "demo" I was frustrated to see that running across the bottom of the screen was "Samsung 100Hz Motion Plus reduces motion blur resulting (in) clearer images". Where was the 200Hz that I had been led to believe this TV was capable of?
Another email to Samsung I think.
As for the self calibration, surprisingly, I have very little kit at home. I don't think that it would be cost effective to get the kit but I will keep it in mind for a later time. At the moment I don't have calibration issues and I have the basics sorted (brightness, contrast, colour, flesh tone and so on) and they are about as good as I would expect from an LED backlit TV.
I will post any reply from Samsung regarding the refresh rate of this moddel here as and when I get it.
