He is amazing. I loved him as JP for years and as Ryan in Emmerdale. The last 6 weeks has shown how brilliant an actor he is though.

I'm very emotionally invested in the storyline and care deeply about JP. It's really sad to see him spiralling downwards like this - I'm so sorry for him.

On Friday I felt more lenient towards Robbie because he doesn't know about the rape and seemed suspicious of Finn but his behaviour in Monday's E4 episode was unforgivable.
I do hate Finn and Robbie but the people who play them are doing a very good job aswell as James Sutton but Robbie on Fridays e4 was vile absolutely disgusting towards JP and how James Sutton played JP was just brilliant.
I think he's done a very convincing job portraying both how emasculated the character must feel as well as the anger. I'm curious to see what the fallout is after attacking Robbie.

Every situation is unique and how someone deals with that is different. I find it hard to criticise sls like this, as I know very little about the subject and can't say it's unrealistic etc
Most soap sls I know very little about but sometimes it's clear how unrealistic it is, but with rape sls how does anyone know unless you have experienced a similar thing.

Well after that court fiasco I hope the coming episodes will be better. I have completely softened towards Robbie now - his real statement was very moving but unfortunately he dug his own grave by telling Finn what he would do - I hate Finn with a passion. If Robbie attacked Finn he would have a perfect opportunity to tell the police why and then the truth will come out about JP rape though that is a bit drastic. Poor JP. As Finn's false statement was all lies, there's no proof of it and even Hollyoaks police will wonder why "Robbie" replaced his original statement with something much worse I have hope. James was really great in this week's episodes. I don't like where they have taken this storyline, but think James' performance has really carried it. I appreciate his subtle choices throughout which is quite rare for this type of storyline in soaps.
So, after waiting 6 whole weeks John Paul returns to Hollyoaks without fanfare, barely a mention in any spoilers (apart from one), and no interviews!
He's now mixed up with Trevor for no real apparent reason (because we never saw a single prison scene after the Sam confrontation) & to cap it all, most of his scenes are with the ever annoying (& now snivelling) Ste. Hollyoaks are obsessed with throwing these two together. Their friendship is unbelievable, unconvincing & lacks any chemistry. I just know that Hollyoaks are desperate to pair them off because they have absolutely no imagination. This is proved by the sad pairing off of Sonny and Carmel (seriously?!!)
An "incident" was vaguely mentioned as occurring in prison, yet no reference has been made to this. JP seems barely affected by his experience inside, he's only bothered when he goes to visit Trevor - which is hardly surprising, I wouldn't want to visit Trevor either! Is he the "nasty figure"? If so, another disappointment.
It also appears that Hollyoaks have more or less forgotten that JP was traumatised by the rape. He meets Finn and again barely seems concerned and tells him he won't be bullied any more! What the ...??? Shouldn't John Paul be more interested with clearing his name of the false accusations of child abuse and getting the justice that was meant for John Paul, & getting Finn locked up? Oh! John Paul has a brief flashback in school that "something" happened in JP's laughable quest for Trevor!
Also, JP was practically considered the devil by most of the village (& worse, a "child abuser") no-one seems to have batted an eyelid (apart from Sandy) that he's back!
Yet Hollyoaks are still talking up the rape storyline, which they stalled after four days and a brilliant start. They then ripped it off screen for THREE weeks! And have proceeded to ruin it at every end and turn!
James though has been totally outstanding throughout. He's shown just what a truly gifted actor he is against unbelievable incompetence, bad storyline development and total lack of continuous support from Hollyoaks and has outclassed all the other actors involved in the storyline, & many other members of the cast. He deserves so much more than he gets from the show that he works for.

I am a massive JP fan. I've loved JP since 2007 and still do now.
I completely agree with you that the rape storyline has turned into a farce.
The truth is, it was ruined for me when JP had to save his rapist life. Then descended further into ridiculous contrived crap when JP was thrown into jail on the evidence of a false statement, despite the person who had supposedly written it not even being in court to testify the statement was true (which of course it wasn't!).
So I am not surprised that they have gone and ruined things further by shifting the focus onto JP and Trevor when it should still be about the rape. This is what Hollyoaks does. It thinks that JP's trauma over the rape is not interesting enough on its own so it throws complications and twists at the story, supposedly to make it more 'interesting' (whilst ironically having the opposite affect) until all concept of the original story is lost.
The biggest disappointment for me was JP standing u to Finn. Why is he not scared of him anymore? When did he reach the point that he felt able to stand up to him? We will never know because Hollyoaks never bothered to tell us!
If they can switch the attention back to the rape and not JP and Trevor, I still have a tiny bit of hope that some of this storyline can be salvaged. And this is where I do disagree with you. I don't mind JP and Ste together.
Kieron is a really good actor, far better than Stephen Billington (Danny) anyway. JP confiding in him about the rape could make for some really powerful scenes.
Also Ste is out! No more closeted/in denial boyfriends for JP! I've wanted that for him for so long now.

Glad there will finally be some progress in JP's storyline in these next couple weeks. I really wish they did a better job with the storyline. I think James has done a very nice job when he has had the material to work with but the extension of this storyline has really been a bad choice. Hope we see him really dealing with the revelation of the rape and we get some good scenes with his family.
