What do you think Peter's Doctor will be like?

I was just wondering what you think (and hope) Peter's Doctor will be like?

Personally I think he's going to be very funny (because although Peter's dabbled in most genre, he's probably best known for his comedy, but not in a slapstick way like Matt- more through irony and wit, perhaps like a mix between Tom Baker and Christopher Ecclestone would be nice.

Also, from what I've seen I think he'll be very loyal to his companions, but will be straight-headed and won't go off to have a 100 year tantrum when he loses themlike Matt and David did- he'd just mourn, then move on. From that awkward Clara hug I think he's going to be a bit less charismatic than his immediate predecessors and won't be as arrogant and loud-mouthed- acting like the most important person in the universe etc.

Unlike most other people I don't think he's going to be grumpy or angry all the time, in fact I think he'll be quite calm, but I think when he gets angry or something gets in his way, he'll be like hellfire (a bit of a less-sweary Malcolm Tucker) and will do anything to make things right. On that note, I think he will have a very high moral ethic (like number eight) and won't break the rules much when he gets angry (Solomon etc.) but I'd imagine he wouldn't be afraid to bluff and pretend.

Sorry for the long essay. I've said "I think" a lot, but this is a mix of a very small amount of observations, what I think will suit Peter, and the sort of Doctor would fit this point in the show. Just wondering what you think of this and what you'd like to see.

Passive on the most part, I think. More proactive than reactive...but yes, plenty of the 'snarling beast' when provoked.

Agree with a lot you say Jack. It's gonna be cool to find out

I hope he has a really dry acidic sense of humour, almost Sir Humphrey from Yes Minister sense of wit.

I think acerbic wit and a kind of coldness to those he doesn't know. I can imagine Clara having to win him round and he having to win her round.

There was an episode of Midsomer Murders on today where Peter Capaldi was having a bit of ado in a pub. I liked the way he expressed himself with words and expression but less of the fisticuffs.

I see him as sth like mad scientist.

And hopefully 'just one question' will become his repeating phrase (like Eleven had 'geronimo' and 'bow ties are cool'). It would be cool.

YES! I would really like to see that happen- that could be very threatening

Saw this interesting article on another sight.

Although I think what they've said has some credibility to it, I personally wouldn't like to see Capaldi's Doctor be too dark (except maybe when he's angry) as I think that would weaken the character.

At most I'd like him to be more sensible and pragmatic than some of his recent predecessors

How would being dark 'weaken' the character? If anything it would strengthen the Doctor. Enough with the whimsy and wacky clothing and heartthrob status. Time for a bad bastard Doctor who doesn't mess around. Of course he shouldn't just be 'dark'. You need light and shade otherwise its just a lazy 'thing'. But whereas Ten and Eleven were mostly quirky and kind with occasional moments of darkness I would welcome the reverse of that. I don't think for a second they would have the guts to do it. Especially in these days of instant opinion being beamed world wide by everyone with fingers and a point of view its a sad fact they wouldn't take such a risk as the minute viewers dropped fandom will be crying out that its too dark and Colin Baker all over again. In these knee jerk times there's no time for *shockhorror* character development. Its a shame. I'm really hoping for a definite sea change in Doctor Who with season 8 otherwise I fear I might start to love it a little less. But hey. Its not made for me. Whatever keeps the viewers as a whole happy.

I assume to never underestimate The Doctor

I think The Doctor will be choosy in who he helps, maybe he will question their motives, so he can see that they are truly worthy of his help. The Doctor has been around a long time, he sees truth.

There is one key problem with The Doctor becoming darker:

His whole reason for being "Emo" and "Dark" was that he had committed genocide on two races, his own and The Daleks. Well, The Daleks survived and, as shown in The Day of The Doctor, The Time Lords survived. He didn't kill billions, he saved billions. He didn't commit genocide, he saved his entire race/home planet while setting the evil Daleks back centuries. He should happier than ever. He is not a genocidal, woebegone person anymore. He is the savior of the Universe, The Time Lords and everything.

He even has a brand new set of regenerations! He is no longer on the verge of death.

He even has a very cute, young companion who has been and will always be there in every situation throughout all of time forever and ever just to help him whenever he needs it whether he knows that she is there or not.

What in the world would there be to be dark about at this point?

Maybe he will be more forgiving of his war doctor persona. Even relate to him slightly. I would like to see a tougher Doctor.

"For centuries I hid that part of myself, no more. Now, I embarrass it..." *he slams a Tardis lever into action

O.k... that is hilarious.

That said, they are not lost, they are just in a different dimension. They can come through anytime that they want.

Also, Peri had a much nicer figure. She looked nice in that bikini.

Is that Theophile talking or is the inner-monologue continuing?

INT - Tardis console - continuous

The freshly regenerated Doctor stares at Clara...

CLARA: Doctor, what is it? You're scaring me...?

THE DOCTOR: there's something not quite... right...

CLARA: was it the regeneration? Are you...

THE DOCTOR: HUSH CHILD!

The doctors eyes light up, he knows what to do and he quickly mans the controls. The Tardis wheezes as it rematerialises...

OT VOICE: Doctor??

The doors open and Peri rushes in. She is dressed in a bikini for no reason.

CLARA: who is this?

THE DOCTOR (to himself): ...will you look at those...

<beat>

THE DOCTOR: I'm sorry Clara, this just isn't going to work out... It's breast if you leave.BEST... best I mean

CLARA: but Doctor...

PERI: ...maybe she could stay...

Peri curls her hair in her fingers and winks at the Doctor...

OT VOICE: DOCTOR... DOCTOR!!!

Clara's voice wakes The Doctor from his daydream...

DOCTOR: ...just one question... Do you know how to fly this thing?

Post regeneration horniness. A whole new life cycle... there's work to do!

This want Colins reason to be dark only Eccleston's.

There is no 'key problem' with the doctors character being darker in nature. The character and show didn't begin when RTD invented the Time War plot device. that's irrelevant. The portrayal of the doctor can be painted in darker hues regardless. His very nature can be subject to change. It doesn't rely on some cause and effect nonsense. 'oh so I have a fit companion and the time war turned out alright'. What!?!? Totally and utterly irrelevant. Its about having a different take on the doctor and a slight shift in his moral compass so perhaps we don't know what to expect every episode. That being the main problem for me of late. The show (specials aside) has become utterly unsurprising and risks slipping into formulaic mode. It would be nice to put a bit of uncertainty in the mix lest it become too predictable. No better way than to challenge peoples preconceptions of what the doctor must be.

I think we've covered 'romantic hero' with Tennant and 'eccentric professor' with Smith.

I really want Peter to be a bit more human, a bit more emotionally open and down to earth. Someone without the time war baggage and guilt over his companions. He is a brand new Doctor at the start of a brand new regeneration cycle, so he needs to be someone really willing to throw himself into the adventure again.

I also think they need to tone down some of the creative excesses of the show as this makes the Doctor less accessible as a character (all that nonsense about the TARDIS having a transporter, and the Doctor's hair and clothes being holograms for instance).

I'm hoping he's going to be a badass Doctor with Pertwee's flair for Venusian Karate. It's been 40 years since we've seen that and it's time it made a comeback. I can't wait to see Peter's first episode. A return to the best of days.

Think he will be kind and funny. However when his friends and innocent people are threatened watch out !.
