For anybody that's looking into one this seems like a good deal.

That's a good price makes buying a Moto X even more of a stupid idea.

That's what I though.

Could maybe live without the removable battery, but would really need 32gb minimum and that would be without all my music.

I used to have a 16GB Nexus 4. By using the built in Google services - Music/Plus/Drive. I didn't miss having onboard storage.

i have the 32gig. realistically how much of the 10gb of music i have on it do i need?

for £110 saving i would happily cope with the 16GB

I prefer having it all onboard as you have to rely on network speed, data limits and also drains the phone a lot faster streaming your music instead of directly from memory.

I don't want this to get into an argument about onboard storage and replaceable batteries though as I know it will suit some.

Google I/O is the end of June (its late this year), which is when new product is normally available. I am hoping for a release of a new phone. But the Nexus 5 is still excellent value.

Actually the main thing i take from this is that rather than buying a nexus 6 when it comes out in october/november when it comes out, i'll buy one in feburary 2015.

I doubt it but you never know. I think it'll probably be a Nexus 7 (2014) and/or Nexus 8 at I/O this year. Unless the next version of Android is already ready, which I doubt considering Google are terrible with staying on track with Android releases.

The Nexus 5 is great though, will they even be able to call the next one Nexus 6, given the copyright issues?

google i/o is a technical event. and no longer the home of consumer product announcements IIRC.

Not true. The Nexus phones (at least the Nexus 5, the Nexus 4, the Galaxy Nexus...) have been released at their own event in September/October.

I want to replace my ageing iPhone 4 with a 4G phone, and am now very tempted by this at the new price. The quality control lottery I read about on XDA dev is still putting me off tho, not sure I can deal with a few RMA's.

Don't worry. XDA is full of whingers. The vast majority of N5s will be fine.

The phone is normally tied to a new version of Android. The new version of Android was delayed for the Nexus 5 as Google tried to circumvent manufacturers being terribly slow with updates.

I/O has always been a technical event. But in order to get people to develop for new technology they need to have access to it. All (available) devices are on show, unfortunately I missed last year. But the year before the Nexus 7 was available.

Yes and the Nexus 5 came out when Android 4.4 came out!

4.4 + Nexus 5 - 31st October 2013
4.2 + Nexus 4 - 13th November 2012
4.0 + Galaxy Nexus - 19th October 2011

The device wasn't delayed; it came out when it was supposed to come out. Try doing some research before posting lies as facts next time .

The software is tested on the hardware first before commercial release. KitKat was amended to remove the dependency on services so that Android features could be distributed independently of the software version - the final version still had some significant bugs in it. Is your argument that the Android 4.4 and Nexus did not exist prior to Oct 2013?

Well the last 3 nexus phones were not announced at I/O

The ones before that were not consumer products. It is extremely unlikely that a new nexus phone will be at I/O.

That was my point. But obviously rosetech doesn't understand that - *sigh*.
