BT very recently increased some of the prices for it's own customers anyway. Hopefully they're not going to do it again so soon! http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/d...er-1571-and-bt

BT will put prices up to make shareholders not customers happy

If a company didn't have shareholders to finance it, it would have to borrow money from banks instead. Would you be happier seeing a price increase to pay off bankers?

BT put up prices to finance expansion, like any company. Obviously it needs to make some returns to the investors who lend it money, or those investors would go away. Personally I'd rather see BT pay dividends to shareholders than interest to a bank.

Please put the prices up even further so I can get fibre rather than 1Mbps...

The wholesale line rental is 8.39 per line, and hasn't changed since 2006. Therefore anything else above that is pure profit by your teleco.

But it is the people that don't use this expansion that is paying the higher price. No doubt the price went up for line rental to pay for Bt sport and FTTC. Services which many people don't have.

£15.99 is a joke imo.

My years up front ran out last month and I didnt realise. Bill shot through the roof.

Im on 21MB Unlimited BB and still have throttled video streaming in the evenings.

BT? You lucky they only throttle your video streaming. They throttled my whole broadband when I was with them, but they denied it.

I did not think Bt throttled any more,

People should not have to pau a year upfront to get a better deal, once again that is for people who have money, but for the ones that don't they have to pay more.

i could afford to pay up front if I had line rental, but I don't see why I should.

Not sure what I would do if I went back to fixed line broadband, the provider i used have now been taken over, so I would have to have a look at something like Vivaciti, not sure if I would go for FFTC

Still no plans to change at the moment, unless something happens with the service I am on.

Normally, in life, there are only three things that are a certainty; You are born, you die and you pay tax. I have now amended this to four things, just add that BT line rental will always go up!

We all know prices goes up, but they are normally for a reason, food because of bad weather higher fuel costs, Schools fees? only if you are a snob. Clothing again because of fuel and and hopefully higher wages. Fuel because it is a cartel and the goverment tax it like hell.

BT just put up line rental because it can, because they know full that most people got a home phone so have no choice. Just a shame that there is not more choice in getting home broadband without BT , they may think again if enough people started to get rid of the home phone.

that did start to happen when mobile phones became more affordable, then the internet got popular so people had to have a phone line again.

You don't half talk a load of nonsense, so BT don't use fuel ?, don't have other costs that increase, unlike almost everyone else, BT cannot put up prices ' because it can', it's wholesale prices are regulated , something like RPI -5 , so inflation has to be 6 before prices rise, ( it's that type of formula OFCOM use, may not be -5, but something like) and it's the wholesale price in question here, if you don't like BT Retails prices, then there are many other providers to chose from, so wholesale prices than go down generally, and lots of retail providers to chose from, your statement is just wrong

The problem here is that we got one private company that can to be honest hold the country to ransom if it wanted to. Bt owns the lines and will do what they want, ofcom is a total waste of space.

As for choosing different retail providers, most of them follow BT, because they have little choice. Only found one that seemed to keep the prices down and that was First telecom, how they did it I don't know.

The other problem is that if you want internet with a loat of these providers then you got to pay for their line rental, another thing that the useless Ofcom should have nipped in the bud.

Thankfully, i don't have to pay line rental

They also have got millions from the tax payer and also they had the network for next to nothing in the first place. The infrastructure is still naff, mile of copper wiring that is not fit for the purpose. of making calls sometimes never mind broadband. i was told over 15 years ago my phone line needed replacing and yet nothing was done.

It means that they got the network for next to nothing and yet all the millions we are being told they have invested have done very little. Sure they may have put money into broadband, but that is a waste of time when their phone lines are falling apart.

Even with FTTC, the voice is still carried on naff copper wires.
