Only skimmed the article, but I think it suggests he's a recurring character, rather than a companion?

I thought it would be the floppy-haired guy from The Day of the Doctor.

Samuel and Jenna have worked together on Emmerdale, so maybe they're friends in RL?

Wow, they actually did a press release for him and all. Is this the first time the new series have done this for a male companion?

Danny Pink - like the name. Actor's rather nice looking too and two teachers in the TARDIS again is great.

Indeed - and Mickey too. But he could equally be a Jackie, or a Wilf.

It was expected by a fair few people that given Capaldi's older, they would introduce a younger male actor for some eye candy, and to take any issues out of the Clara/Doctor relationship..

Interesting it's another Emmerdale actor too.

Looking forward to him.

That is definitely true.

But I also think his character will give Clara a stronger connection to (modern day) Earth. What little we saw of her family during the Christmas episode was not very exciting, and Clara doesn't seem close to them at all. A friend from work actually seems more likely to have a lasting inpact, and of course the writers can always add a little attraction/tension between the two for the shippers among the fans

The article also said that Pippa Bennett-Warner had been cast but did'nt mention her role, however it claimed that she had been in Death in Paradise but I can't find her listed as being so.

I hope he's learned to act since he was in Emmerdale - he was terrible!

I wonder if Samuel will get his name in the opening credits with Peter and Jenna?

It would be so wrong for this not to happen...

Also watch for me in the background as the caretaker keeping the cellar Dalek-free.

Interesting, I wonder if The Doctor will call him Dan or Danny or something else.

If anyone's seen the sun today, it say's "He is a teacher at coal hill school where clara work's but samuel soon get's caught up in the pair's escapdes" which kind of gave me the impression that he would be a rory/mickey character and travel with them more and more as time goes on.

At the very least I think we can expect a mention of Ian Chesterton now that we know that Coal Hill's sticking around. Possibly a cameo, but the 50th surely would have been the time.

Anyway, good news. I like the actor, the name, and the idea.

There was something (can't recall if it was in an actual article or just rumour/speculation) a while back that Moffat intended Series 8 to hark back to the Classic series in a big way.

Having the Doctor travel with two teachers from Coalhill School certainly suggests there may be some truth in this so I wouldn't be totally surprised if Ian does make an appearance.

Well, if they're going to be emulating the first TARDIS crew they'll have to find Susan too
