TV with Live Pause/Record facility - without getting a box?
Hello,
We are thinking of buying a small TV (24 inch) and would like it to have a record/pause facility. Is there such a thing. I've been googling and can't find anything but we don't have any room to put in a free view box. Thanks. |

To do this would require a TV capable of recording to a usb drive. You would need to accommodate this. Live pause etc works by continually recording the live content into a buffer file on a usb mass storage device. This will mean a device with sufficient capacity to accommodate the time shift buffer.

Thanks - so if I do a search at Curry's and look for a tv that has a USB drive on it would that be what I was after?
24" TV's with USB recording don't normally come from quality makers. For what it's worth here's one. http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/35323675/873261469/-/ListingDetails.html?_%24ja=tsid:13315%7Ccat:35323675%7Cprd:35323675&$$ja=cgid:7111955817|tsid:48121|cid:130773177|lid:54121505697|nw:g|crid:22715961057|rnd:8569425821834618144|dvc:c|adp:1o7|mt: |

Note also that the latest USB standard is 3.0 and whichever hard drive/flash drive you buy will say it is 3.0. Don't worry though they are all backwards compatible to USB 2.0. Also I'd recommend that you buy a hard drive rather than a flash drive as the storage size to price ratio is advantageous and you get a longer pause time. I have a 320GB 2.5 inch Hitachi USB portable hard drive which after formatting leaves 298.1GB Total Space. A 2 hour HD Freeview recording uses 5.85GB and SD considerably less. I can't be more precise than that 'cause all my recordings are in HD. I can pause live TV for up to 90 mins. A 500GB drive costs around the same as a 320GB drive. And I nearly forgot to say that the drive will be operated via the TV remote and be accessed via the Source (or similar) button. 500GB Hitachi portable hard drive: http://www.amazon.co.uk/HGST-Touro-M...bile+MX3+500GB |

Sorry, I was wrong about the Panasonic having USB Recording. Thanks for correcting me Graham. The Sony Bravia KDL24W605, the Philips 24PFL4228, the Sharp LC24LE250K and the Linsar 24LED950S however all have it.
Some 22 inch TVs have it too - the Samsung UE22F5400, the Samsung UE22F5410, the Linsar 22LED950S and the Sharp LC22LE250K. |
