Capaldi potentially has a creepy look so I hope that trait does resurface. |

Jon Petwee's face in the opening credits sequence is creepy as hell.....
And doesn't even really look much like him, how did they manage that?

Peg dolls - maybe not scary, but certainly creepy creatures from nightmare. And very immaginative too.

The Kandyman. I know he's one of those things that gets mocked, but I always found him very creepy. I love "The Happiness Patrol", one of my favorite Seventh Doctor stories, but I do admit that it was failed in terms of sets designs and costumes. If those aspects of the story were done better, I'm sure the Kandyman could have come terrifying.

The Fendahl.
I saw someone describe it as a woman in gold with eyes painted on her eyelids just swishing her arms about. But I found her quite intimidating. There's something quite eerie about strange eyes. |

When Miss Evangelists revealed her distorted uploaded face to Donna in Forest of the Dead' I actually had nightmares. It really played on my mind. Much like the evil elves in The Polar Express. Demons' the lot of them.

And I agree with The Polar Express. It's such a cool concept for a film but the characters all suffer from 'uncanny valley'. They look slightly off. For me though, I found the monster in 42 to be quite creepy. I think it was the only time that we've seen The Doctor properly fearful for his life for more than a brief scream-at-Daleks scene in NuWho. And farting gags aside, the concept of the Slitheen is very creepy and freaks me out. Skinning humans, including children in SJA and wearing skins as suits. |

I found the monster in 42 very creepy, particularly the way it reduced people to shadows, and Ten's agony and terror in that (very underrated IMO) episode was harrowing. I find the Adipose quite freaky - the image of poor Stacey dissolving into the little horrors was pretty disturbing IMO. ![]() All of them very effective though and I'm looking forward to some hopefully very scary villains in Series 8.

What about the entity in Midnight from 2008? Every time it knocked, I nearly wet myself!! That was quite a scary episode.
Especially when Lesley Sharp screamed, "It's coming for me!"At times I had to put a cushion in front of my face. It was like the very first time I saw the Daleks. I saw them when I was ten, in a repeat on BBC2. Scary as hell!! ![]() I would say it's possibly the scariest episode of DW since 2005 up to now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp2OKgTJX9E |

Another vote for the Kandyman. And I wasn't that young at the time.
![]() Same season, Ian Reddington as the Chief Clown in TGSITG. Brrrrr. Then again, I know Clowns freaking people out is not uncommon. Brilliant performance. Edit: Admittedly not technically a Monster. |

Catchphrase doesn't quite work, and there's some very sketchy genre lines - I seem to remember a younger girl (Abbie Learner?) who gets some really thankless victim dialogue towards the start. But I think it's a cracking episode, and Chibnall's best. |

I know when I was really young and I used to watch Doctor Who on and off, that two Season 17 monsters scared the life out of me. One was Scaroth, especially when he pulled his human mask off, and the other was Erato from The Creature From The Pit.
At the time it looked like a very frightening green blob, now it just looks like a huge....well, you get the idea! ![]() Just shows how much things have moved on since then! ![]()

The china dolls in Night Terrors. Just... brr. Especially the scene where the landlord BECOMES one. I found that terrifyingly chilling. >_<
