Just seen this posted on GB: Link
To me, the thought of actual proper licensed Lego Doctor Who toys and maybe games as well is just so exciting.
I'm sure there are fans of all ages who would love this. Really hope this happens.

I don't think people are interested, mate. Character Options made a mess of the action figures for "New" DW by downsizing them to 3.75 inches. The new size figures aren't selling well, either. I e-mailed Character Options Customer Service Team in January about this and unfortunately, CO won't be budging on the size. It's staying at 3.75 inches for the forseeable future.

I don't think people will be wanting to buy "DW" in Lego form. I can't see the Lego selling like hotcakes.

I don't understand, there already is/was doctor who lego available. I've seen a few set's including a set of all 11 doctor's in lego form. I myself have a lego tardis that came with lego 11th doctor and amy pond.

I'd love doctor who Lego. I'd by a set of classic doctor who mini figs. Also Lego cyberman tomb, how cool would that be?

That wasn't Lego. It was a cheap knock off by Character I think.

No, Lego is a brand. Character Building made the Doctor Who stuff.

No 5-inch Capaldi figures, then? What a load of old pants.

Have a look at the Forbidden Planet site, I think they are offering War McGann, Hurt & Capaldi 5 1/2 inch figures.

The think I'd most be excited about if this comes true is the possibility of a Lego Doctor Who videogame. It would be perfect for the formula and gameplay of those games, especially the hundreds of characters

Although it's weird that the Character Building sets are marketed for being "compatible", which is clearly an indirect reference to Lego. Is this compatibility due to a deal with Lego or is Character Building exploiting a loophole in Lego's patents?

Edit: In answer to my own question, Lego's patents have expired.

Would be cool to have a Lego Doctor Who game. Seems custom made for it but I'm sure licensing issues are complex at the moment and BBC Worldwide only seem to be going for the cheap 'n' cheerful tat market these days rather than anything actually good.

Doctor Who has always been hard to do as a video game. So has The Simpsons (which has just launched it's first Lego set). But both franchises would be ideal for the Lego video game franchise as they have lots of characters. The mechanics from the Harry Potter Lego games would serve Doctor Who well (sonic screwdriver could work the same way casting spells did). Characters such as River Song, Captain Jack Harkness, and UNIT soldiers would have guns, as used in the Lego Batman and Indiana Jones games by villain characters.

That's the first I've heard of it. I've looked at doctorwhotoys.net and they say on there, that there is only the smaller size of Capaldi's Doctor available.

I shall take a look at forbidden planet's website, the next chance I get, to see for myself.

Unfortunately there's not going to be any Lego Doctor Who any time soon.
It recently lost out to... The Big Bang Theory.

Yes, that's right a show filled with a myriad of interesting settings, planets and spaceships all of which could be made into Lego form, lost out to a studio sitcom.

I don't really understand this decision, but oh well...

I've never watched it in my life.

It's the most watched sit-com at the moment. Even beating Modern Family...

I don't usually watch American sitcoms. I don't tend to find them funny.

Well they didn't do their research. It didn't lose out to Big Bang Theory - two different Doctor Who ideas are still "in review" according to https://ideas.lego.com/

Though if Character still have the rights to make Doctor Who building sets, surely Lego shouldn't be allowed to consider it? BBC Worldwide allowing it would probably be a breach of Character's contract!

Yeah the blog article says they're still in review... it's just they picked the other two other designs for production first.

The Doctor will regenerate into a piece of Lego because there's nothing to say that Time Lords can't regenerate into pieces of Lego

It was only about 6 months ago that they changed there 'rules' about which copyrighted licensees could be designed on essentially the Lego version of kick starter. Think they got the needed votes within 48 hours for 4 different sets. Lego isn't stupid, normally they only let one product get through each review stage so there totally gonna do doctor who at some point. I haven't seen any new character sets since the "new rules"

doctor who is a big set to do there probably thinking of how to do it best, mini sets with one doctor, mulit doctor sets or a Favorite episode per doctor. Game wise would be nice if there was 12 stories one with each doctor. or one normal story, 12 lives and you regenerated if u lost your hearts. ( free play mode can switch )
