Samsung Smart TV keeps turning on and off!

Hi there,

I am not very tech savvy, but I have a Samsung Smart LED HD TV where the model number is UE32F4500AK.

I got it from Very yesterday but I registered the product ONLINE just now on the samsung website on this cyber service centre thing which gave me a 12 month warranty.

I installed it correctly as I have had one before but needed to replace it because the screen cracked. (Bad luck with TVs)

The TV keeps turning on and off every 3 minutes with the red light in the bottom corner flashing everytime it switches on and off.

I don't know what to do? I have tried unplugging it manually but same thing is happening. I have read its quite a common fault with samsung TVs.

I have a service centre down the road from me and I was wondering whether I should take it there and if my 12 month warranty will cover this (do I need to pay anything?)

Well as you only bought the TV yesterday, and it's obviously faulty, then you are entitled to a replacement or a full refund.
And the responsibility for that lies fairly and squarely with Very, so get in touch with them.

Did you buy online or from a shop?

I would have thought this service centre guarantee was more for getting it repaired, whereas you don't want to have to get a new telly repaired. You should insist on a replacement.

Well they'll have to send a courier to collect it (at their expense), and bring you a new one.

Seems to me manufacturers and retailers seem far too willing nowadays to accept a certain percentage of faulty products.

Well, the TV might not be broken. It could be just a firmware glitch or something like that. Before you return your TV, I'd recommend you to unplug it from the socket for 5 minutes, and then reset to factory settings. If problem persists, then ask for replacement.

I also have samsungs - screens are a bit fragile on the tvs - and it sounds as if the tv is programmed to switch itself off at preregistered intervals. Have you gone into the settings, to check what it has been programmed to do?
As it is still well within it's 12 month manufacturer's warranty, it shouldn't cost you anything. The only thing I would say is, contact Samsung to ensure it is not just an oversight on your part as, if they find there is nothing wrong with it, you may end up being charged.

Although the OPs TV may be slightly different to mine, I can not see a setting that will turn the TV off every 3 Mins. The least time is 15mins.

It sounds more like a capacitor thing.
