The inevitable 'Shrove Tuesday' thread - pancakes!
It's that time of year again
, and I was just wondering whether anyone has any nice ideas either for the pancakes themselves or for accompaniments. For me nothing beats lemon and sugar, or a little golden syrup. I like making a plain pancake batter with more elaborate toppings, but if you're after a nice alternative to have on its own or with a little butter then this old recipe of my aunt's is a nice one: 8oz flour 2oz butter 3oz sugar pinch salt I level tsp bicarb 2 eggs half pint milk - soured if possible Rub butter into flour, add salt and sugar. Beat eggs and mix with dry ingredients. Dissolve bicarb in the milk and stir till it bubbles a little. Add and beat into a smooth batter. Drop onto bakestone / crepe pan in little dollops. These are thicker and richer than ordinary pancakes obviously. |

Lemon and sugar for me too, can't beat it.
I'm half-tempted to try and melt a Creme Egg onto a pancake, but that may be a mistake. Savoury ones are lovely too, I like pancakes with mince in. |

I might try and make a fine cauliflower cheese filling, I think that would work quite well.
Sweet ones will just be standard lemon & sugar. |

Blackcurrant jam is my favourite. I usually try a few flavours though.

I like the idea of savoury, but on pancake day I'd be gutted if someone served me a non-sweet one!

Saw a great idea on one of the American cooking shows. A pancake cake! Stack up about 10 pancakes make layers of them with cream in between each pancake or alternate with jam and top with cream and cut it into wedges like a cake - looked great!

I make fluffy pancakes, my family loves them. Really nice with blueberries cooked in them and maple syrup drizzled on top.

Last year I remember getting some bottled fruits (cherries and such) from Lidl and they were delicious on a pancake. Only on one though as these fruits have quite a deep and intense flavour. I think we all had one each of this topping, and it was ideal.

Grated cheese and lemon juice. I know it sounds vile but somehow it's not. If you have any spare batter give it a shot!

Sugar and lemon, or golden syrup for me, oh and banana with the golden syrup sometimes. I make them all year round though. My kids love them.

A squidgy mess! Best keep it small so as not to waste any yummy batter!
