I can see why so many people have them as their favourites.

Even though Christopher Dean said he felt that Beth was under marked tonight I didn't think so, I thought that the judges were rather kind to her, especially in the flying when her partner had hold of her most of the time and hardly let go. Especially in the first half of their routine. Beth does nothing for me and leaves me quite cold because of her performance.”

I don't think we have seen her skate though - she's very good at dancing on her toe picks, and distracting people with her arms and super theatre face. It stops people from either noticing or caring about the fact she's not moving, being pushed, or being carried.

Well they could do some 'twizzles'. I don't think ice-dancers do a lot of solo skating to be fair.

Hayley doesn't skate well on her own.....and Beth doesn't perform well. There is fault in both of these folks, but yet Hayley is slated here like shes carrying a virus!!! Beth is good overall but she doesn't make me want to watch her and root for her in the long run. ...Hayley does and she would get my vote. ...but Ray hasnt done anything wrong yet he's in the skateoff and could lose the title overall
....all because of bigging up a celeb who seems to be hard done by

Rsality show voting all over again.....and that mentality will never change!!!

Good post. I mean, why vote at all. I couldn't vote for anyone who I didn't believe to be the best.

Beth can't perform, that's why I don't think she should win. In my opinion, that should be Ray.

I think the reason people defend Beth, but slate Hayley, is because Hayley is treated like she's perfect on the show, and Beth is being told she doesn't deserve to be there because she's not Hayley.

People can see that Hayley isn't perfect, and that Beth deserves more than she's given credit for, and that's why, even though they're both strong in their respective areas, they get painted in such different lights on DS.

If Hayley's skating was less than average the judges would say so and mark her down. Hayley got through over Ray and Sam tonight so it is not only the judges that think she is good but has a good fan base as well.

I feel that a lot of the dislike for Hayley is more about people liking Beth and not liking the fact that Hayley is being marked higher than Beth. Deservedly so in my opinion. I don't like Jason but I feel he is right about Beth. She has not got the whole package and is definitely lacking in performance! Sam should have stayed tonight and Beth should have gone. She was very lucky!”

I don't dislike Hayley and thought she deserved her win in her year. I usually enjoy her routines, but she does rely heavily on her dance training and Dan to get her through, unlike Ray, who has to provide dancing and skating skills combined. Because Dan does most of the work in their routines, all Hayley has to do is perform.

I agree that Hayley performs better than Beth, but tonight I enjoyed Beth's flying routine more than Hayley's and I thought her on the ice routine was good too. She was unfairly marked and because of that the public got behind her. Jason only has himself to blame for not getting the final three he wanted. If he carries on being a jerk, Beth might even win it, which wouldn't be right IMO.

Hayley is the best performer there. Her skating may not be up to that of Ray, but she certainly is capable of skating well. People on here have disliked her since the line up was announced and have continued to do so until now.”

I've disliked her from the moment she stepped on the ice in her series. Blatant favoritism from judges, basic skating skills (as proven in her solo skate last week) and hanging of Dan like her life depends on it. Completely lost faith in the show the year she won.

That bit in bold is at the heart of the matter. This is Dancing on Ice - if it was a dancing competition, Hayley would probably be a shoe-in (even though, personally, the gurning jazz-hands over acting leaves me completely cold). However, it's not a dancing competition. The challenge is to perform on ice - to ice-skate and master the specifics of ice-skating. A lot of the time, the ice is completely secondary to what Hayley is doing; she's either on her skate tips or holding onto Dan. She doesn't really do ice-skating at all. Add to this her theatrical background and you realise that she's more or less just doing what she does for a living.

Beth, on the other hand, is universally accepted as someone who has mastered the skills of ice-skating. The only criticism she gets is about her performance level.

Now maybe it's because I cringe at Bruce Forsyth and Paul Daniels and that kind of vaudevillian/stage-school OTT showmanship. I prefer a subtle performance and I find nothing at all wrong with Beth's 'performance'. I really enjoy her performances. Add to that her skating skill and she is, in my opinion, in a different league entirely to Hayley.

edited to add: In relation to Ray, I think he comes across as quite arrogant and smug. I don't care how good he is, it's very off-putting when someone so obviously thinks they're the bees knees.

The show may be called Dancing on Ice.....but I have also seen gymnastics done off the ice and flying in the air. ...done by Beth and Hayley respectively. ...and because Beth is a gymnast and flavour of the month, isnt being frowned upon by the fms on here. ....but Hayley being a performer is pulled apart and stamped on! !! Ironic that! !!

Why don't you address what I actually wrote? I said nothing that would involve tearing anyone to pieces. She can't skate well. It's that simple. In the early stages of this show, to the best of my memory, the real template for success was being able to perform on your own on the ice. Hayley can't do that - at all.

I can see her charm but personally find her performances way too cheesy and Dan's winks to camera are the final cheese topping

To be fair, ice-dancing doesn't really involve much solo skating, Hayley dances very well with Dan. A real template for success also includes performance skills which Hayley has in abundance.

Hayley relies way too much on performing skills ( though those seem always the same to me, grinning , jazz hands, cheesy stuff which personally I dont care for) and doesn't bother with the skating much. Her skating skills are very basic and I can't think of any wow moments or any good skating from her so she really doesn't appeal. Obviously it does appeal to some but for me since it is dancing on ice I feel the ability on the ice should factor a bit more into the result. If it was just on dance, I would still reckon Ray beats Hayley due to greater range of movements/emotions he is able to convey while for on ice skills Beth also beats Hayley into a cocked hat. Beth understands and uses her edges and can demonstrate recognisable turns, difficult footwork skills etc while still performing well. Just her performance isn't quite as 'out there' as Hayley's. I just find Hayley and her 'performances' annoying. Without Dan she'd be lost and I'd like the winner to be someone who can actually skate well.
