One thing that distracts me from the show is Jayne Torvill. She is the most uncomfortable person to watch on the show, and just seems so disinterested and bored. At least Christopher dean makes some bit of an effort to look like he cares some bit.. I mean you can even see it in the routines they come up with, so generic and boring..same old all the time..Its a shame that in the final series they couldn't at least look they are having fun and come up with some original interesting routines.
Jayne Torvill
Jayne has always been a bit reserved and a bit shy, but that does not mean she is disinterested. She is the quiet partner to the more dominant Chris.
Chris does my head in. Every time Jayne tries to get a word in, he starts shouting over her and cuts her off. It's no wonder she's decided to just stay quiet unless directly spoken to. He also says a lot without actually saying much. Just the bog standard "you were great tonight" kind of lines every week.
As for their choreography, I agree. I don't understand why they never allowed the professionals to be more hands on. Why not allow 50% of the pros to choreograph their own routine one week, whilst they (Chris and Jayne) choreograph the other 50%? Then, in the next week, swap it around and then keep to that rota all the way through.
It would give Chris and Jayne more time to focus on each routine, whilst allowing the pro and their partner to show off their best work, too.
It would also stop certain contestants always getting weaker routines than others. For example, Bonnie, Suzanne and Kyran all suffered this year because of it, in my opinion (as has Beth). They were all tossed to the side for certain others. Had they had a few of their own routines thrown into the mix, they all would've stood a greater chance at staying longer than they did.

I don't think they want to be there anymore but have no choice due to contractual obligations. Unlike ITV and Schofield etc Jayne and Chris knew that the show had reached the end of its natural life.
I wouldn't be surprised if they don't end up doing something for the BBC once DOI has finished. They've done a lot on the channel in the last few months, Strictly special, a documentary about the Olympics and it was The One Show who accompanied them to Sarejevo to film them re doing the bolero rather than an ITV crew.

BiB : I hadn't thought of that before, but now you come to mention it, I think you could be right, though I'm not sure precisely what they could do.

I feel the same. I wonder if it wasn't for the fact that this is their 30th anniversary of the bolero success, if they would have bothered with this year at all. Also, to be honest, I've never felt that either of them have great personalities. Chris says something bland, and Jayne just agrees!
I see Jayne as a naturally shy/quiet person, who, despite years in the spotlight, still struggles to find something to say when the microphone is directed towards her.
And I really sympathise with that. I'm pretty sure that if I was on a stage with the cameras on me, my head would be going "la, la, la...I've got to say something, la, la,la,la......duh...!"
Hence the very safe comments Jayne gives - planned and rehearsed so that she doesn't go blank.
Chris on the other hand gives more in-depth comments when allowed to.
I've noticed that he often makes positive remarks about Beth's ability, much more so than the judges. But those remarks are left hanging because of the nature of the show.
I agree with others who suggest that T&D do appear to be just going through the motions this time around.
But as to the choreography, as has been mentioned on other threads, there is only so much they can teach the celebs owing to time and safety issues. And what they teach is further limited by what looks good on the small ice rink and on camera.
I'm wondering if, when this series ends, whether Chris in particular says a few things in interviews about DOI that his contract prevents him from saying at present.

Her being disinterested would be a good thing, since it means 'impartial'. I think the OP means 'uninterested', and I agree with other posters that this is probably just Jayne's natural reserve.
