I have made these polls to simply see what stories Per Doctor are some peoples favourites. I'm not saying those who won are the best as everyone can have a different opinion but it at least gives a reasonable idea to some of the best stories. As you said it also gives new fans the idea of what to watch first from each Doctor. Over the years we have seen some great stories, some average stories and even some terrible stories (from both the Classic and New Era) but I do not think that the Classic era should be judged harshly just because it did not have the same visuals or budget as the New Era. Some of my absolute favourite stories are from the Classic era.

I have a feeling that a New Era story will win this poll (indeed at the time of posting this 'The Day of the Doctor' is first and 'Blink' is second). However, the Classic era is holding strong with 'Genesis of the Daleks' 1 vote behind and 'The Caves of Androzani' 5 votes behind. This poll still has several days before it closes and anything can happen. It may see several voters with a passion for a Classic and that may take the crown.

Agree with all of this and as I've said before every single Era of Doctor Who has it';s fair share of absolutely classics and complete clunkers. That can be said of any Programmes, Series and Films with different era's. Even the James Bond films have one film per Bond that isn't as well regarded as the others.

I think a New Series story will win as well but it's great a few of the Classic Stories are in with a shout too.

I don't think that is true because George Lazenby and David Niven only did one film.

Well that wasn't made clear in the original comment. A person with no knowledge of James Bond would think you were talking about every James Bond. Also in the case of Dalton it is other not others.

I think you're overreacting a bit here.

All I was trying to do was give an example where various actors have played the same role and James Bond came to mind. Yes, I could have made it clearer but there was no need to jump down my throat! Jeez.......

So yes, I was referring mainly to the four Bonds who've done more than two films and I do believe that one Dalton film is better than the other but this isn't a James Bond Thread so best leave that one. The point was that within those three or more films there is one film there than fans would probably regard as the weakest of the time that actor played the role.

Though different I could say The same of The Avengers. There are some good Honor Blackman stories which are better than some Diana Rigg stories. There will be better Linda Thorson stories that are be better than Honor Blackman and some of the Diana Rigg stories better than both of them. But all three Era's will have weak stories as well. Same with Blake 7. Some episodes are better with Blake in than those without him and vice versa.

That's all I was trying to say. Good and bad stories within different era's aren't confined to Doctor Who. Hoping this time my point has got across a lot clearer!

Yes I think that is the best thing about these polls. what has now been collected is a list of recommendations for each doctor, and having seen both genesis of the daleks and caves of androzani, and liking them, I think it's probably it's fairly accurate in terms of better episodes, and I will certainly look at this list when deciding what classic who to try next. Way better than guess work.

Also, noticing that four dalek stories have made the top 11, it might be interesting to do a poll of just dalek stories some time in the future.

The first time I saw Genesis of the Daleks was in 2006, on DVD. And when I saw the Thal Bettan, I thought, "Wow! She's nice! I quite like her!"

Cool. can't really say I'm surprised at either of the current results either. Was wondering though, how come their both 3 years old and yet I can still vote on them? don't the polls on this forum ever officially close?

You can specify how long you want the poll to stay open for when creating it (the one in this thread is 7 days for example) with one of the options being that it never closes.

Obviously I did this Poll some time ago, as you can see by the absence of Asylum Of The Daleks. As has been stated, a Poll can stay open forever. I didn't put an end time on it as I didn't expect either thread to be running that long.

Big Moffat fan but I really don't get the love for The Day of The Doctor. Understand it's 'emotional' pull on fans but large parts of the story were meh at best.

This is going to be a close one. At least no story is set to receive "nul points".

Interesting to see that going into the aniversary year we couldn't see 3 of those stories. Web was pretty much visually lost bar ep 1 Paul coming back was only a dream at that point and the aniversary special hadn't been filmed

I wonder if we didn't vote for best stories per Doctor first, how different would the end result be?
