I do not know how much oomph iTunes needs. You can get a tablet with Atom or with one of i3-7 processors. Difference is in price, performance, and battery life. If you go for the better processor, make sure it's 4th gen, you get a better battery life out of it. You need an SD slot for your iTunes library, because an internal disk space is usually limited. I am smitten with Lenovo's ThinkPad 8'', should be 4G, too, for ~$400, but it's not available in Europe yet. There's quite a big selection of available Windows tablets, personally I would go for something with full HD screen, internal disk at least 64GB or better yet 128GB. I only made an experience with an original Surface Pro. It's quite chunky and a battery life is not very good. Surface Pro 2 should be better in that respect.

iTunes won't run on Windows RT with ARM processor, it will run on Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 8/8.1 Pro. ATM only MS and Nokia are making Windows RT tablets.

All tablets with Intel or AMD processors run "full" Windows. Officially there's no such thing, some reviewer may have used that term to distinguish between RT that is quite limited in what it can run and the other two versions that have no such limitations. There's only Windows 8/8.1, Windows 8/8.1 Pro and Windows RT 8/8.1. If it says it uses Atom, i3, i5, i7 or AMD processors it's fine to run iTunes. If it says Windows RT, it is not for you.

BTW iTunes is quite a behemoth, it may be taxing for an Atom processor. Somebody with an experience with this can tell better.

Don't know much about it, other than what I read, but this looks decent value:

That Dell looks nice, I would only wish a higher screen resolution.

I think Dell are hedging their bets because full HD+ on a small screen would be wasted on desktop Windows, even if scaling is employed. That, and it keeps costs down.

I'm torn, though, how much more useful a Windows tab at this size has over an iPad or Android tab. There are distinct advantages like proper multitasking, the sheer breadth of Windows apps and of course Office, and a mouse pointer when you need one. I've always been a fan of tiny PCs (OQO, Toshiba Libretto, Sony's UMPCs) and this Dell tab holds a similar attraction to me.

It's just the picture is prettier on HD screen, even such a small one If I could get my hands on that ThinkPad now, I'd get one, it's all I would want. But who knows what else is around the corner when it finally gets here.

I have Surface Pro, which is ~11''. and even if I use the Modern UI mostly, it's nice to have the desktop, too and do something more serious with it, even if it can be a bit fiddly.

There are full Windows 8 tablets around. The Surface Pro is probably the best one. My dad has one and he installed all his Windows 7 programs on it. He even managed to get an XP-era photo editing program (Microsoft Picture It) working on it after a bit of faffing around. He uses it more than his Ultrabook from 2012 running W7. He also has a big 17" laptop for use at home when he needs a big screen to do serious work on. The Surface Pro 2 is probably better than the original. I hear the battery life is better.

How about this? No mention of it being a Windows 8 RT release though.

I have a Dell Venue with full Windows Pro on it. Works well. Bought from Dell in UK, remarkable value (less than an ipad at the time)

How do you think it would cope with the likes of Blender and Sketchup? I presume I could pair a bluetooth mouse and KB for the 'full' PC experience.

I love my iPad, but there are some things it just can't do - see my examples above - and would love something similarly small (and affordable) to run these apps on.

Should cope I think? Handled everything I've needed so far. I have an iPad too, but web design stuff on the move is now achievable!

I have one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VivoTab...dp/B00D8VB5F2/

It's fine as a tablet, let down only by Windows 8.1 itself, which can't decide whether it's a phone or desktop OS. It is absolutely no substitute for a decent desktop or laptop and I think you're nuts if you want to buy a tablet and then use it for blender.

You could almost buy a desktop + laptop for the price of the kind of a high end Windows 8 tablet that you're going to need, and the tablet will still be stuck with a tiny screen.
