This was done between Carla Connor and Leanne Battersby, as they were then and, for me, it was a really big mistake.

Irrespective of what the characters have done, to or with anyone else, the two girls had a strong friendship which IMO should not have been destroyed.

Yes but the friendship is destroyed imho. How can anyone be good friends with someone who has treated them as maliciously as Carla treated Leanne? Carla showed Leanne just how very little she thought of her at the time of her affair with Peter and it would be hard for anyone just to accept that and go along with it. It would be so belittling and humiliating and Carla would secretly despise Leanne for her what she would see as subservience and Leanne would never be able to have faith in this person who not very long ago wished her to be dead and who even after having supposedly grown a friendship with her, cared about her so little that she wanted her to disappear, into the gutter if necessary. She also wouldn't allow Leanne to even continue a friendship with Peter, the guy who Leanne had pitied and supported when no one else would and who's son she took care of.
Carla would have a hell of a lot of making up to do when you think about it? How could she even begin to compensate her?

I do know what you mean about friendships and Corrie is lacking in them and has been for a while. Everyone seems to be with their other half for self serving reasons in relationships, there's a vacuum where the affection and intimacy should be. But if they are going to do anything about making amends and they have to build relationships on strong foundations.
I think Leanne and Janice had a great, believable relationship and it's sad that doesnt exist anymore, but at the moment I'd have to say that Beth and Sinead's friendship works really well, they have a real rapport. Also it mightn't be popular wtih some people but I like Liz and Tina as well. And strangely Rob and Tracey seem to work well, I think there should be more of them being all domestic in the Barlows. I'm not a fan of Tracey but I think this is one of the only scenes where you get a dose of reality. And maybe it's cos the Barlow's seems as much like a real home as you get in Corrie. Anyway they could try a lot harder,
There's no point in sticking people together and hoping for the best in soaps, we the viewer can tell if there is an actual warmth from the characters or not. Leanne has high standards and she won't tolerate someone who would mess her about or not care for her and be concerned for her as a real friend should. She is a serious person when it comes to relationships and she understands loyalty. I'm sure a chorus of voices will crow right about now about her affair etc, but that's irrelevant. We have all seen Leanne's devotion and loyalty to the ones she loves over the years and that's the real testament to her character.

Rita and Emily have always been good friends; I hope they never split them up. Deidre and Liz are quite good friends as well.

As Leanne 'slept' with Carlas husband, for money as well, their friendship just wouldn't have happened in my opinion......and I never understood why Carla and Maria as friends as well after Liam...makes no sense...
