Should solo skating be part of the final?

Opinions appreciated.

Yes, but I wouldn't mind a routine where the first 30 seconds and the final 30 seconds have to be skated solo, with the skater being partnered for the section in between, so you got a straight contrast between their skating ability with and without their partners.

I like that idea.

IIRC they used to have something very similar - where the celeb came onto the ice alone before performing with partner.

Yes. Or synchronised, side-by-side skating would be good. Just a stretch during which the contestant was not being picked up or guided at all by their partner.

This would be brilliant. It would accurately test the skating and the performance and both need to be present at the same time...

I think if they all had to do the same tricks on ice to proof they can skate, with the sane music. Music makes or breaks the skating, bad music spoils a good skater, good music helps a poor skater. I do think they want Hayley to win, why is beyond me. She seems to get to pick ie; partner. I think Beth should have danced with Dan, she was last years winner.

I like the idea of all the finalists doing a short routine solo with the same music but not necessarily the same routine. Some skaters are better technically so should be allowed to show off their skills in the routine rather than having it dumbed down to the level of the worst technical skater.

But then you get the supporters of the worst skaters claiming that their favourite is being not being given their chance to shine because their choreography is less exciting!
Make the solo stuff similar but hard, I say. If someone can't do it, that tells its own story.

yes

personally I think there should be a routine in the final without lifts - one that focuses on skating and technique

to many routinues, in my opinion, are lifts and being carried around the ice

No.
This is Dancing on Ice as a couple and not solo skating.
Torvill and Dean dance as a couple don't they.
