I thought I had heard of most kinds of chilli, but ghost chilli is a new one on me. It's offered as a topping on a pizza in my local delivery joint, who say "Warning, very hot". So I won't be ordering it, as I prefer the mellower types of chillies like pasilla and guajillo.

So, ghost chilli -- anyone tried one ?

The ghost chilli has been around for years. It's no longer the hottest but it still packs a punch.

its been around a while under various names such as Bhot Jolokia and red naga chilli

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhut_Jolokia

I think ghost chilli is more popular name for it across the pond

Yes. They are hot. If you don't like/can't handle really hot stuff, I wouldn't advise it.

I think it's an Americanism.

I know them as Naga.

Ive had it in a sauce on something in my local pub so no doubt a highly watered down version of the real thing but it had me in tears still it was that hot

I like spicy food alot too, but I don't think I'd ever try the real thing.

Was just googling and a chilli called the "Carolina Reaper" is now the world's hottest with peaks of 2.2m Scovilles.

The "Ghost" Chilli apparently "only" peaked at 1.4m Scovilles.
