Big Brother Germany: How does the 1 yr format work?
Brekkie

How is the one year format working with Big Brother Germany.

I know the format is basically a rich-poor house set up, but how are the evictions working - and how often are they introducing new housemates?

Are any of the original housemates remaining - and do housemates win anything for staying in the house for a certain period?

All answers appreciated - but to add something to this topic, how would you work a year long format?

Obviously there is a need to bring in new housemates every couple of months once the eviction process takes it's toll - and you don't want a huge number of people in the house.

I think you would need two houses and regular "finals".

One house would be the "Active" house. This is where they play to win and every few weeks a winner would be declared.

The second house is home to the evictees of the active house and any new housemates introduced. There aim is to gain entry into the Active house. Evictions also take place from this house - but if evicted from here you leave the show for good!

IMO there should never be any more than 16 HMs in total in both houses - with a maximum of 12 in one of the houses.

Towards the end of the series (around week 45) after the latest "final" the winners from the year plus a few HMs chosen by viewers - and any remaining in the second house - would enter the main house for the final time and go through the eviction process to determine the overall winner who would get a much bigger prize (Say £1,000,000)

I know that they are allowed out for certain times, e.g they are alowed out to the cinema on occasions as rewards. And there are loads of housemates coming and going on the show that not many housemates last the full tenure anyway.

Not a show for the BB purists like ourselves by the sound of it!!!

I think the year long format lends itself more to the pyschological aspect of living under BB's control for one year rather than a game with a definite beginning, middle and end.

Also, the scheduling of our version wouldn't lend itself to airing for an entire year. Most countries screen Big Brother around 7pm on the edge of primetime, but C4 screen it at 10pm which is right in the middle of it's prime viewing slot - and V Graham Norton showed that C4 as a whole suffers with a programme airing regularly 5 nights a week in a prime-time slot!

They've got the balance right now - the 10pm slot is free in the Autumn and Winter for drama etc, while screening Big Brother in the summer fills the slot nicely!

The voting has changed a few times. For the first 3 weeks each team of 3 original housemates were nominated and 1 was evicted then the voting changed for the 1st time, the teams competed in a challenge to determine which team would be eligible in the nomination process then in a live show the housemates nominated one person from that team and the two with the most votes would go to the public vote.
That nomination process went on for the next 18 evictions until it changed for the 2nd time, This time all housemates were nominated and the person with the lowest votes from each team were put to a 2nd public vote and 1 was evicted.
At the start of January, it was announced that no new housemates would be entering, the Survivor team was no more and it was now just the countdown (from 15 to 1). The first two evictions were just taking off the person with the lowest votes then, because that wasn't popular they took the 3 people with the lowest votes and put them for a 2nd vote with 1 evicted.
There are currently 7 housemates left and the show finishes next Tuesday so I have no idea what's going to happen get rid of the next few. There are 3 housemates that have been there from the start and are expected to be the final three.
This is the official website www.bigbrother.de and Carsten, Jupp, Nicole and Toni are currently nominated. Sascha is the clear favourite to win with Michael and Franziska close behind.
The 6th series starts on the same day as the BB5 final and is supposed to last forever.

I found out what's going to happen, 5 housemates are to be evicted on Monday with the final 2 leaving on Tuesday which means 1 original housemate will not make it to the final day as expected.

Sounds complex! They'd be better off just having an extra regular 100 day or so series each year IMO.
