This means that there will be no repeats on BBC TV of any episodes, except online.

A sad day indeed.

I won't miss it. I have not watched anything on bbc3 since dr who confidential and ideal were cancelled. In fact they can cancel bbc2 and bbc4 as well as I don't watch them either. With freeview recorders/sky plus and iplayer there is now less of a need for a bbc3 repeat than there once was.

Well, I agree about BBC 3 but I watch a hell of a lot more BBC 2 and 4 than One.

I agree about BBC3 also, for me it's just ITV2 in disguise and that's bad enough. I only ever watched it for Torchwood when it first started and EastEnders repeats. One's switched channels and finished, the other you can watch on IPlayer, so for me personally I won't miss it.

As for BBC2, it's not a channel I watch regularly but it does have some good programmes on there from time to time, like An Adventure In Space And Time for example! BBC4 also has some good stuff but only when I can be bothered to find out what's on there.

BBC3 has been utter drivel for many years now. It sold out on its original remit to nurture new talent in drama and comedy and replaced it with screeching self absorbed brides, hideously bizarre cryoto-fascist fashion programs, binge drinking STI infected teens being spied on and Robert Webb pointlessly pointing out the fact someone in Predator 2 was wearing a watch on the wrong wrist in that one scene and OMFG lol. Not to mention subjecting us to Two Pints of Lager- a low point for British culture that still chills the bones. Torchwood, Being Human, The Fades and Nighty Night and the few other decent programs is not enough to justify eleven years. Get rid. And if you want to watch Doctor Who? Get the box sets.

That sums it up quite well.

Just because you guys don't watch the channel it doesn't mean it deserves to be axed. Uncle, a comedy from BBC THREE was one of the best comedy's I've seen in ages, I've had many a fun night watching American Dad and Family Guy (Having the box-sets isn't the same).

I'll be a lot more upset if they get rid of BBC4 which is fast becoming my favourite channel.

At least BBC Three has better programming. I don't watch ITV2 if I can avoid it. I hate TOWIE with avengeance. Uh! That common Amy Childs, thinking she can be just as good as Katie Price!

I will really miss BBC Three. Repeats of DW on Friday and Saturday nights were good. Sometimes I found watching them on BBC Three better than going upstairs, getting my DVDs out and sticking them on the main player in the sitting room. The only way fans can see repeats of DW, is on 'Watch' at 4pm weekdays, plus on a Sunday with an episode.

Snog, Marry, Avoid I shall miss a lot too. I enjoyed having a laugh with that. Will it be put on another channel so that it can continue?

I was wondering when the channel is going to go. Probably in the Summer, just before September, but who knows? The BBC will let us know in time.

Also, what will people without the Internet going to do about EastEnders repeats, if they miss the original showing of an episode on BBC1? Maybe if they have a Sky+ box, they can record it so they can still see it.

Even if BBC 3 hasn't been axed I would have been hugely surprised if it ran Family Guy for much longer. I have heard rumours of BBC 3 losing the right to show them. Anyway I don't think showing American imports is a justification of keeping a channel

It's official:

Considering I didn't watch anything on it except the "American Dad!" repeats, I can't
say I'll really miss it.

Gosh, 100% this.

BBC3 was innovative and groundbreaking for the first few years. 2 Pints was quite funny at first, both enhanced and hampered by being initially written by one person, and a woman at that - groundbreaking, for good or ill (they did it no favours by repeating it constantly in the late slot). But I judge a channel on its original programming, and for the last few years BBC3 has been lacking. It's a shame someone at the top decided that 'youth oriented' meant Bargain Hunt meets Jersey Shore crossed with Now!/Closer/SwitchBrainOffButThatsNotABadThingWeAllNeedToRelaxSometime magazines. Because being between 18 and 30 means you are incapable of processing anything more in the BBC's eyes.

I find it informative that all programmes mentioned in the press in any defence of BBC3 are long since decommissioned in some way or other. It's not the channel it used to be, and that makes me sad.

Don't care. I have all the New Who episodes on DVD and now that Being Human is gone, the vast majority of stuff on BBC3 is total crap.

So I guess I'll see Russell Howard at the job centre on Monday? Haha, just kidding. I'm not unemployed.

I won't miss it just like I didn't miss Confidential but I do thank the channel for Gavin & Stacey, Torchwood, Funland and import Family Guy.

It makes sense for it to be online only, the age group it's aimed for are more likely to use demand sevices on-the-go rather than to gather around a TV to watch F*ck Me, I'm Ginger at a specific time. Some shows may dip in quality but on the plus the BBC save 100 million a year and it will only upset a tiny fraction of the public...

I can only judge by what I see and that is, every time I switch on BBC 3 or ITV2 they have the same reality show crap that I really despise. That's just my view though, clearly both channels are suited to a certain audience, I'm not one of them so I don't watch. I certainly never said it should be axed, just that I won't miss it if it is. In some ways it's a shame as I always think of BBC 3 and The Daemons and the fact they predicted a BBC 3 back in the 70's!

I don't know what they'll do about the EastEnders repeats. Unless the shove it to BBC 2 from now on or just leave it people to watch the Ominibus on Friday's. I'm sure they'll find some way to accommodate that audience.

...for all the people spouting vitriol about BBC3? It's not exactly my cup of tea (except Good News and maybe the odd Family Guy), by your reasoning, Channel 5 should have been axed way back. Mind you, they're in talks to resurrect the BBC's Big Break with Jim Davidson hosting again, so I wont speak too soon

Plus the decision has yet to be ratified by the BBC Trust, I hear.

If BBC Three goes, BBC Four (which has aired Doctor Who - remember An Unearthly Child airing in November last year? - so the no more repeats thing the OP said is total bull) will need to rebrand as well.

I guess with the cuts a casualty was inevitable.

Lots of moaners on here as usual, but I shall miss it. It's the channel that brought us Gavin and Stacey, Being Human, and some notable imports like Summer Heights High.
I like programmes like Bad Education, Him and Her etc as well.

They'll keep BBC4 of course.

It's the BBC's insurance policy against being dismantled by the Tories.
If they start meddling, the BBC will sally forth to all the Tory-voting pensioners in Sleepyshire, saying "Who will bring you Radio 4? Who will bring you BBC4 and those interminable documentaries about Queen Victoria's knickers collection and such?" Saaaaave us!"

You do all realise the lack of quality in recent years is because of cuts to its budget?

It's happening again....

When they came for my neighbours, I said nothing

When they came for my friends, I said nothing

When they came for me, there was no-one left to say nothing too

Lets all watch a great institution get taken apart piece by piece instead of doing something about it shall we?

Doesn't The Doctor teach us to stand up in the face of stuff like this?

I totally disagree with the decision to axe BBC3, if anyone is interested as to why, My reasons are explained in more detail in the Ratings thread.
